Vasco da Gama maintained their winning momentum with a 3-2 win over Maritzburg United at Newlands on Friday night.
Goal-mouth action was in short supply early on; the only shot before the opening goal in the 26th minute saw Zeka Karkee going wide.
There was no surprise as to the identity of Vasco’s goal-getter – Sibusiso Zuma again doing the business for Carlos das Neves’ men as he turned home Jonathan Armogam’s cross after 25 minutes.
But the KZN side were not behind for long – in the 30th minute Musa Nyatama underlined his quality with a brilliant curling effort into the top corner.
Maritzburg’s numbers were cut to 10 in the first minute of the second half – Fadlu Davids’ return to his former club proving to be an unhappy one as the skipper picked up his second yellow card for an elbow on Francois Adams.
This enabled the Cape side to enjoy the upper hand for the remainder of the game, although they struggled to create many clear-cut chances.
It was only in the 81st minute that the breakthrough came as Keenin Lesch let rip on the half-volley for a spectacular goal.
Four minutes later it was 3-1 as fellow substitute Bradley August scored from the rebound after his header had been blocked by Shu-aib Walters.
A 90th-minute goal from Kulegani Madondo proved only to be consolation as Vasco made it three wins out of three in the League.
