Siphiwe Tshabalala tipped for Safa Player of the Year award

Vlad V tips Shaba for award

Posted: 2010-12-02 06:36

Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic says he expect Siphiwe Tshabalala to be inspired in the Telkom Knockout Final after his nomination this week by Safa for the Player of the Year award.

Local football's controlling body will hold their awards ceremony on Friday and 'Shaba' will battle it out with SuperSport United's Bongani Khumalo and Everton's Steven Pienaar for the right to be called Safa's Player of the Year. Vermezovic has already declared Tshabalala a winner.

"For me Tshabalala is Bafana Bafana's Player of the Year and I will not be surprised if he gets the award… he scored the most beautiful goal in the World Cup and he deserves to be named the best player this year," says the Serbian.

Vermezovic, though, is confident the award, if 'Shaba' gets it, won't distract the midfielder's focus on the all-important Final against nemesis Orlando Pirates.

"But on Saturday I don't think he is going to think about that. He can't be disturbed," Vermezovic adds.

Meanwhile, Tshabalala's spectacular goal against Mexico in the opening match of the Fifa 2010 World Cup was last month nominated for Fifa's goal of the year and to vote for him click on this link http://www.fifa.com/ballondor/puskasaward/index.html.

Jealous down Pie-rats and Sunflower suppoters..Its Tshabalala..locally..when Pienaar's name is mensioned..its Pienaar's to take..i dont see Teko's name there, i dont see Killer's name there..Viva amakhosi!

By the way where is the Flops awards..and Teko alone should compete

Zibu kai 1: 2010-12-02 07:07

Pienaar didn't come to the party during the world cup. Shaba is the winner 4 me, even during the build up to the world cup he was supa

Lesiba.Lakes : 2010-12-02 07:12

The criteria to select the awards herein above is simple, for player who took part in more National Team games than his contestand should get the nod. Players such as Katlego Mphela and Itumeleng Khune should have also been nominated ahead of others on the current nomination. The duo performance and committment in the National Team dating from the 2009 Confedaration Cup until the 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP were above the rest!
As for coaches who have achieved more than his contestand should also get the nod.
One contestand in the coaching category, one wonders how he got nominated? Was it because he succeded in avoiding the chop for the embarrassing performance in the Under-17 Womens World Cup recently? Or maybe we want to give recognition to SAFA President tribal?
SAFA is full of Administrators, why no award for them? If there's any why classify it under OTHER categories?

Wonder: 2010-12-02 07:28

What criteria did they use to select these players? i mean BonganiKhumalo was nominated for what, scoring the goal against France? Shabba yena, what is he nominated for, scoring the World Cup opening goal?

What about Mphela? he also scored in the world cup and in many other games, why was he not selected? Pienaar? what did he do for Bafana? and When was this idea conceived to have SAFA awards?

Coach of the year? does it even make sense? The idiocy at SAFA seem to continue unabated, i thought with Raymond Hack and Oliphant gone, things would improve but cha, i was wrong.

Supporters award? heheheehhehe, this SAFA is out of order. can they please tell us the criteria used atleast for each category?

Wonder: 2010-12-02 07:37

Good luck to all the nominees though, i hope each and everyone get whatever they deserve!

mash-do : 2010-12-02 07:42

fack this safa awards!!! This is a joke!!!! Wat did pienaar do to deserve that nomination? Is shabba goal enough to earn him a nomination? And under wat bases was khumalo chosen????
And how on hell can mosimane earn a nomination wen he has only been coaching for few games?....this so-called awards must be scraped!!!!....i mean those nominees doesnt deserve to be ther!!!! Infact i think we are rewarding mediocrity....cos our national team didnt achieve anything in the past year!..... I think khune and mphela deserve the nomination than those guys!!!.....
Anyway who gives a fack...
Amakhosi all day everyday!

Wonder: 2010-12-02 07:45

Oh, i see they say this is the 3rd edition of SAFA awards, apologies there as i thought it was an inaugural one. having said that, anybody knows who was SAFA Player, coach and Supporter of the year?

I'm interested to know?

Rockafella: 2010-12-02 07:52

Wonder: 2010-12-02 07:28

I had promised not to ever comment in this again but these "awards" really are a joke!!! SAFA will always be SAFA, the more things change the more they stay the same. Like really now, how do they select the nominies for these awards?? What has Khumalo done for Bafana, Pienaar??? Hayi cha ngyabonga mina.

Rockafella: 2010-12-02 07:54

Wonder you say its the 3rd time? Its the first time I hear of them.
Shame on SAFA!!! Who are the previous winners? Somebody please help

robby : 2010-12-02 08:11

@wonder,these ppl they really are a joke,i like shabbinho a lot as a player but how can pienaar and khumalo contest with him?pienaar war good at everton not internationally so,the less said about khumalo.infact safa must introduce another catagories where i think khumalo would fit very well.can one important goal make u a player of the year?here we are talking about all national games be it a friendly or whatsoever but we count all bafana games.where is Mphela?the man who scored regularly 4 bafana.we are therd where we are in terms of fifa rankings its because of Mphela.anyway guys lets wait and see.i hope safa next time will introduce more catagories.

Wonder: 2010-12-02 08:15

sthabiso: 2010-12-02 07:54

I was suprised myself, but you can read it on the link below!

http://www.safa.net/index.php?page=articles&id=208

Pinto: 2010-12-02 08:17

And scoring one goal should make you player of the year, well, well, well. im lost for words. and what axactly has this guy done this season??????? please chips supporters enlighten me!!!

jabu: 2010-12-02 08:19

What has Pitso and Solly done to be shortlisted for the award or is coaching a national team that automatically qualifies one?

mash-do : 2010-12-02 08:26

last year the player of the season went to pienaar!
This awards are just a waiste of money ! No one gives a hoot about them!!!!! I support chiefs and i think shabba is a good player but that nomination doesnt make sense to me!!!...who selected those people and wat was da criteria???? The only categori that make sense is the young player of the year award....beside that everything is a joke!........hehehehehehe mosimane deserve to be nominated for the assisted coach of the year award....I mean this safa idiots just want a chance to sip expensive wines and eat sushi all in the name of awards! Do we really need this awards? I hate sunclowns fc but i think mphela deserve a nomination!!!!......

S\'javo: 2010-12-02 08:28

i don't know what criteria was used by safa seriously, how can you justify the nomination of Pienaar and bongani, the deserving nominees are Tshepo masilela, tahabalala and killer,to hell with this safa awards

Sos: 2010-12-02 08:37

i personally feel that shabba deserve the nomination because if you can check in all of his international caps he's been a consistent player in terms of scoring and creating many scoring opportunities...lets also not forget that when the national team went to Brasil for world cup preparations, in most of the games he was the top goal scorer while strikers like mphela were struggling. even the local football clubs and followers there were singing his praises...as for other nominees no comment, but shabba deserves it.

LOVE & PEACE...GOLD & BLACK

sean: 2010-12-02 08:40

Too bad we cant vote, like we do with the puskas award, cause we all know that Shabba will be sacrificed for Schillo

Andy: 2010-12-02 08:41

People are very angry out there, and have a very short memory!....Shappa from Confed on wards has been the most consistant BB player as well as on form...he just didnt score only during the world cup..even during the buildup he was scoring those set pieces left rite and centre, so to say scoring a goal in World Cup makes him automatic nominee is unfair.

Bongani Khumalo, took over Gould when he got injured..we have been compalaing about leaks at back due to Mbazo...however when Mashobane was there Bafana conceeded less than 5 goals in 10 matches (excluding the uruguary massacre when he was the main culprit.

Steven Pienaary didnt join the squad for 'camp' , truth be told when he came in he distrupted the bafana system, only played well against france..post that he played well except for USA game.

My nominees should have been........Seniorr....( Shabba, Mpela, Khune).......most improved, rookies.....Khuboni, Khumalo, YEYE)

sean: 2010-12-02 08:44

Sthabiso and Wonder have you guys never heard of these? I think Schillo won the previous two - and he deserved it last year. I think Hunt also won the coach award. Don't ask me how. Nam' angazi ukuthi kuvota bani.

Wonder: 2010-12-02 08:58

sean: 2010-12-02 08:44

So last year Hunt won it? which national team was he coaching? ok, say maybe they consider PSL coaches as well, what is it that Hunt achieved last year that he didn't achieve this year?

I seriously did not know of these awards and i'm not at all surprised why.

Of the 3 players nominated, although i feel 66% of them did not deserve the nomination, let alone winning, Shabba should take it even if its only for that spectacular goal because the other 2 they did not even deserve the nomination.

Swona Champ!: 2010-12-02 08:59

who ever came with this names was drunk,- Ramahlwe Mphahlele
or was he limited for choice, there are few people in SAFA, is this awards necessary? 2. Presidential Awards

3. LOC Board Members

4. Sponsors

7. Lifetime Achievers Award

what's all these? political! as for simphiwe, will he get the greates goal award if there is that category or player of the year award, you score one goal and get a normination? bull sheet! where in the world have you ever seen that?

sizwe : 2010-12-02 09:09

These whole awards are a joke. scoring the opening goal of the world cup surely doesn't mean that you're one of the best performers. shabba is not a very good player, he has been sliding down for years now.
As for jali, jus how many times did he play for the under23s to deserve a nomination? this is insane. there is nothing good about this guy, he jus plays for a team wit fans who over exaggerate his performances on the pitch.

Mister not so nice guy: 2010-12-02 09:27

Mphela is Bafana Bafana's player of the Year period

you statement is incomplete.
You could have said, like our former General Teko, His performance was exagerated by stupid Chibuku fans.

Lifetime Achievers Award should go to Siyabonga Nomvethe or Brian Baloyi

May be Mphela wasn't nominated simply because he was a cow during the Fifa 2010 WC tournament.
How many goals did he miss during the WC?
Remember the game between BB and Mexico, Katlego and Teko missed two clear cut chances.
Do you remember the game between BB and France?
Katlego missed 3 clear cut chances.
We faced France when they were mentally crippled after ****ka was sent home.
We could have won that game with 5 goals.
Shaba and Khumalo deserve to be there except Pienaar.

FISTOS: 2010-12-02 09:43

eishh safa why?
i mean why is jali on that list?wat did he do for our junior teams,
i mean we had erusmas, klassen, who did wonders at the worldcup and
u had to bring something from pierates,
sum1 is behind this i tell u,

as for the seniors i think Mphela and Khune should have been there,

life time archivement i think should go to Zuma or nomvete,

i hate chiefs fans (gays)  : 2010-12-02 09:44

You are not a football supporter but Chibuku fc supporter **********.

sean: 2010-12-02 10:23

Hawu ba'fwethu ngithe dont ask me how Hunt was considered. But this is the nominee list from last year:
2. Coaching Awards

Gavin Hunt. He won back to back Absa Premiership titles with Supersport United; he had to keep Matsantsa a Pitori focused all the way because of the sustained pressure by other teams. Gavin was recently appointed as a Technical Assessor for Bafana Bafana.
Styles Phumo. He guided United FC from the Free State to the finals of the Vodacom National Play offs, after a long and tough season in the Vodacom league, Phumo successfully navigated United FC to the National First Division, after defeating Batau FC in a pulsating final that was decided on penalties after a two all draw on regulation time.
Jomo Sono. Jomo Sono defied the odds and made a greatest comeback to the Absa Premiership after his club Jomo Cosmos was relegated in the previous season. It was on an easy comeback, Jomo Sono had to win the National First Division Inland stream first, and decide Ezenkosi's fate in the gruelling National Play offs. Sono was also roped in as a Technical Assessor for Bafana Bafana.
Serame Letsoaka. As coach of the National under 20 side, Letsoaka has qualified Amajita for the African Youth championships in Rwanda earlier in the year, the team reached the semi finals and automatically qualified for the under 20 FIFA World Cup in Egypt. Letsoaka's boys reached the last 16 of the tournament and lost to Ghana in extra time. Letsoaka has now assumed his new responsibility as SAFA's Technical Director.

south african fack association .......sponsors award???? Wat da fack is dat?? Hehehehehe loc award? Kikikikikiikiikiiki i smel a rat here i see irvin khosha winning this one!!!!!!!!!......mara why did mosimane get nominated???.....for the idiots who are questioning mphahlele's nomination must chill!..how can u question the guy who captained the under 20 team in da world cup and praise jali who was a bench warmer? Isnt because mphahlele doesnt play for pie rats?......
I still think khune and mphela deserve a nomination not pienaar and khumalo!...... The off form player of the year must go to tekolosh modise!!!......... Wat da fack is presidental award??? .....i cant wait to see jacob 'peanut-head' zuma laughing from ear to ear....kikikiikkkikikikkiik!

Jingotres: 2010-12-02 10:35

It's straight and simple.

Chiefs fans will convince us Shabba deserves it
and so as Pirates and Sundowns fans will do.

Mphela deserves it

There's no one better than Katlego in the PSL/Bafana.
The fact that we relied on him should at least put him amongst players nominated.

HlatseBoy Wa Lekhosi: 2010-12-02 11:38

I dont think the nominees of the SAFA footboll player of the the deserve the nomination....
I think Khune, Mphela should be the only nominees for that category.. I like Mr Jingles but I dont think he deserves the nomination as well..
What has Mphahlele achieved in the under 23 and Swallows temas respectively?
I will give it to Jali in his category based on the fact that he managed to be called up to the national team and that he hepled Rebels FC to the MTN 8 cup glory...

Sweyts: 2010-12-02 11:49

was that the most beautiful goal he has ever seen in his life? how old is vv (vicks vaporub) 6months? since when did a goal determine a fotballer of the year. Bongani is on his way to the Engish Premiership for all his hard work at both bafana and ssu. where is simphiwa chakalaka now, still using only his left foot at his kaizer chicks team. Bongani should easily get it but just because SAFA has turned out to be SAMAKHOSIKAZI, they will give it to simphiwa chakalaka

You are spot on bro... We have the weakest players one can think of.. When you look at the current goal scorers in our league, you will note that its all about the brothers from the neighboring countries..
I am a Chiefs fan but I think Shabba is overrated. The guy cant make a 5 meter pass using his right foot... And you want to call that person a national hero??? I think those overseas clubs were right not to buy these players... They could have wasted their money for zilch...

Dr Prof: 2010-12-02 12:39

Whoever claims that Shabba doesn't deserve the award should should go mental check-up, which player deserve it?

in fact the nominees should be as follow:
1. Shabba
2. Khune
3. Yeye

Champ "Superbrand": 2010-12-02 12:52

There is no player in the Bafana that stood out in the World Cup. No one deserve it. Of the three, Bongani khumalo deserve it. He played very well, its no surprise he signed with EPL team.As for nyawana(Sis Sphiwe) I am not surprised even the clubs in Quatar are not interested. Pienaar did nothing special.

Champ "Superbrand": 2010-12-02 12:57

VV stop mixing cabbage with Aids drugs!!! How can a player be chosen based on scoring just one goal in the World Cup. There were many beautiful goals scored in the World cup 2010.

Anyway no one should take VV who thinks with his bolls seriously. The combination between Tiyani and VV is worse. These two talk about these things after smoking cabbage.

Congrats Shabba for taking what belongs to you, thats why SAFA didn't put Mphela and Khune on the list. SAFA wanted to show these idiots that you were an important asset for BAFANA since the preparations, Better than Bongani even tough we went to English and better Steven Pienaar tough he plays in English. All the Best for the future, hope you can put more effort at your free-kick I still believe you are the best in those you just need to put more focus.

Focus on improving on your weaknesses, you the currently the best player in South Africa.
