Did sexual favours influence the selection of Banyana Banyana players during the qualifiers for next year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup?
According Safa CEO Leslie Sedibe, this is one of the areas that are being investigated in their probe to find out why the South African girls failed to qualify.
Safa’s National Executive Committee will meet on Friday and already there are reports that the future of Banyana coach Augustine Makalakalane is in serious doubt with allegations of sexual harassment being levelled against him.
Sedibe says they are going to look at what influenced the selection of certain players, the format that the coach used and why certain players were preferred over others.
Sedibe told SABC News that they are waiting for that report.
He says Safa will also leave no stone unturned in its investigation into allegations of sexual harassment levelled against Makalakalane by former and current Banyana Banyana players.
“Obviously the association will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment and intimidation of any of the players to the extent that the allegations are proven to be true, and appropriate disciplinary steps will follow.”
