Vasco da Gama inflict more misery on AmaZulu

Posted: 13 November 2010 Time: 22:23

Vasco da Gama scored a 3-1 win over AmaZulu at the Newlands Stadium on Saturday night.

Vasco’s goals were scored by Josephy Kamwendo, Sibusiso Zuma and Brian Kgafane. Lehlehonolo Majoro scored for AmaZulu. Majoro was red-carded for a dangerous tackle in the 64th minute.

It took just five minutes for the first goal to come, AmaZulu winger Lehlehonolo Majoro applying the finishing touch with a clinical low drive from inside the box.

But Usuthu’s lead didn’t last long – Josephy Kamwendo arrived at the back post in the 13th minute to powerfully header home Sibusiso Zuma’s hanging cross.

There wasn’t too much goal-mouth action after that – Ayanda Dlamini was twice denied by Posnet Omony, though seconds before the break Vasco’s Zeka Karkee dragged a shot agonisingly wide of the upright.

Vasco went in front for the first time after 62 minutes when Zuma netted from the rebound after his penalty (for a handball) had been saved by Mzimela.

And two minutes later Usuthu were down to 10-men when Majoro ended his night with a dangerous challenge and subsequent red card.

Stembiso Dlamini should really have equalised for AmaZulu in the 80th minute, but from 10-yards he shot too close to Omony, who nevertheless pulled of a fantastic match-winning save.

The Cape side however made sure of the three points in the 83rd minute when a free-flowing move saw Rudi Isaacs crossing for Brian Kgafane, who had a fairly simple tap in.
