Draw pleases Pillars boss

Kano Pillars coach Salisu Yusuf was pleased with both the endeavour and the result from his side’s opening day 1-1 draw at Kaduna United.

Ali Rabiu put the northern aristocrats in front before they were pegged back by Siman Yusuf’s mean volley into the roof of the net.

But Salisu was happy to come away with a point on the road

“I am happy with the draw. Normally every first game of the season is difficult, especially when it is an away match,” Salisu told the NPL’s official website.

“To pick a point in the first away match is no mean feat. We are surely going to improve on the performance.

“By the time we played up to three matches, the team would have picked up. I don’t have any doubt in my mind that we have the crop of players that will make us proud this season,” Salisu said.

Happy to see some news from the league. I think we can do a lot more, like mtnfootball does atimes, by giving the names of players in the team, the substitutions made, and the ratings of the players. A match/2 matches per week will be a starting point. Then, we can rightly say that the media have contributed their own quota to the development of the NPL.

Up pillars

I think it is time for Samson Siasia to start contacting some of the guys he has in mind. Nigeria is the African country with the most players playing for other countries in recent times most times due to neglect by the people in charge of the national team. There is an Emmanuel Emenike playing for Karabukspor in Turkey. He is probably the Nigerian with the highest goals in any European league with eight goals in eleven matches, second only to Niang of Senegal. He has been rumoured to be on the wish list of the Turkish national team handlers, we must not lose another player after the recent switch of Marvin Ogunjimi due to the snob by Eagles handlers. He just scored hat-trick yesterday in one of the Turkish league matches. Watching some of his clips shows a player with hunger for goals and very close controls when dribbling his markers. There are many others like that hidden in Nigerian leagues and Europe. Siasia should not leave the issues of friendly matches to NFF alone. That was what he was known for when he was coaching the youth teams. We want to see some of these players in friendly matches even if they are not the high-profile type. We want to see our team scoring goals again, it has been long that a player scored hat-trick. I believe with careful planning and impartial call-up, we can get there soon.

may i ask if this is kano pillars jersey or the jersey of vvv venlo.though the artikel might be ok but the picture speak a volume of poor journalism.maybe kano pillars does not have a player whose foto could fit in here thats why kickoff has to put the foto of musa ahmed with his new club.

auwal87: 2010-11-07 14:34

@ realdave, that is the picture of Ahmed Musa, Pillars' one time hero, just search Ahmed Musa on Google and see!

Segun: 2010-11-07 15:47

@auwal87, Obviously realdave knows that musa was formerly in Kano Pillars. However, he is no longer there and cannot be the identity of Pillars especially while holding the jersey of Venlo. Our journalists should try and get the seal of all the clubsides in the NPL or the group pictures of their players instead of using odd pictures all the time.
