Wits shift Downs match to Nelspruit

Bidvest Wits, Mamelodi Sundowns game moved to Nelspruit

Posted: 5 November 2010 Time: 6:57 am

Bidvest Wits have decided to take their League game against Mamelodi Sundowns to Mbombela Stadium on November 14.

The match between the Students and the Brazilians was initially billed for Bidvest Stadium on the same date. The kick-off time remains at 15h30.   Speaking to KickOff.com, Bidvest Wits coach Roger De Sa said part of the decision to move to Nelspruit to play against Sundowns was to take the game to the people.   "The Nelspruit stadium is not being used there and we want to take the brand to the people. Another reason is that the Wits students are writing exams and the move will also avoid disruption on the campus."   The Clever Boys midfielder Sandile Sibande, who was born and bred in Nelspruit, says he is very excited about the move.   Sibande tells KickOff.com that he has already invited friends and relatives in Nelspruit to come and watch him play against Sundowns.   "I grew up in Nelspruit supporting Kaizer Chief, but my dream was to play professional football one day.   "I am very excited to get the chance to play in my hometown in front of those people who know me and I have sent invitations to some of them to come and watch me when we play Sundowns," he says.

Well done Wits, how i wish i was still in Nelspruit, but if time permits, i will travel down to watch this one as well.

Infact Enerst, Wits have confirmed that they will play 4 matches in that stadium, the Sundowwns game is the first. if all goes well, they will consider taking more games there, i just hope the people of Mpumalanga, especially the Lowveld will embrace this team so that more matches can come that way. it is also not for the first time that Wits takes their games to Mpumalanga!

They are playing into Sundowns hands, Wits large support come from students at Wits, so why would you take a big team such as Sundowns to Nelspruit, where it attracts large crowds.

Wrong move by Wits: @ Bidvest u stood a chance, but that chance is all gone.

Good move by Wits,Mpumalanga fans must show some appreciation by packing up Mbombela to the rafters. This is one move to see that the stadium does not become a burden.I wish the same can be done with Mokaba stadium.

Thanks a million to Bidvest Wits for taking their brand to all people, i'm staying in Nelspruit and i'll be at the stadium on that date. Thanks Wits it shows that you not sellfish unlike the other so called Big Teams of Gauteng including my very own team Mamelodi Sundowns, they are sellfish they want our full support but they do not care about us outside Gauteng Province.

Good job Wits, now its up the people of Nelspruit to fill the stadium and make it difficult for other clubs to ignore the earning potential in "previously soccer disadvantaged" provinces. Now stadium managenments, please make it clubs worth while.
