Santos through in Telkom Knockout

Posted: 24 October 2010 Time: 17:16

Bidvest Wits were made to pay dearly for the missed chances in their match against Santos when they lost 1-0 at Bidvest Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Clever Boys went on the offensive as early as the sixth minute when Sifiso Vilakazi blasted a powerful shot towards goal, which was parried back into play by Tsepo Motsoeneng.

On the follow-up, Stanton Fredericks also saw his shot being saved by the on-form Motsoeneng.

It was the Clever Boys who had the upper hand ensuring that they put the People's Team under all sorts of pressure.

In the 31st minute Sifiso Vilakazi put Asive Langwe through, but the 17-year-old saw his shot being saved.

A few minutes later Vilakazi came close, but his shot from Myeni's cross rebounded off the crossbar.

The score at half time was 0-0.

Two minutes in the second half Myeni broke the offside trap but his shot went wide.

In the 67th minute Santos had their first chance of the match through Jurie Basie, but too could not find the target.

Two minutes later, a long ball from Motsoeneng was flicked on by Basie to the path of Graham King who netted what proved to be the winning goal.

Two minutes later, midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi tested Motsoeneng, but the goalkeeper saved for the corner kick, and Santos soaked up the pressure for the win.

Good to see a Cape side through as well. Good for the game if there is a balance of teams from the major centres.

It was good for me who works in Braamfontein every night, as there was no noise in the area. The students were given a real lesson before their matric exams. You dont get it right the first time, you lose it. Maybe they will do it right in their exams now that Santos showed them
