Kamwendo, Kinnah make peace

Vasco da Gama midfielder Josephy Kamwendo took advantage of Malawi's game against Chad this past weekend to make peace with the Flames coach Kinnah Phiri.

Kamwendo, who has been at loggerheads with Kinnah, travelled to Blantyre on Saturday to watch the Flames demolish Chad 6-2 in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier before meeting the coach.

"I am glad that he has outlined the issues in my face and I cannot wait to make a Flames' come back now that our chances of qualifying for the 2012 have been brightened with that impressive win over Chad," Kamwendo told The Nation.

The former Free State Stars mentor Kinnah confirmed that all differences with Kamwendo were water under the bridge.

"We spoke on a number of issues and we also talked about his being dropped from the squad and we ironed out the differences. I have assured him that as long as he keeps fit and play for his club, he will play against Togo," Kinnah is quoted as saying.

The on-loan Orlando Pirates midfielder had resigned from the Flames in August after Kinnah accused the player of faking his match fitness levels following his unimpressive performance in a game against Botswana.

The now clean-shaven midfielder struggled in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifier against the Zebras to earn Kinnah's wrath before the player announced his resignation.

Kamwendo eventually backtracked that he only asked to be excused from the Flames so that he can cement his place at Vasco da Gama. He accused the Malawi press of misquoting him.
