Odemwingie named Player of the Month

Osaze Odemwingie rewarded for good start with West Bromwich Albion

Posted: 2 October 2010 Time: 8:27 am

Barely one month into his time in the English Premier League, Osaze Odemwingie has been named Barclays Player of the Month for September.

His manager at West Bromwich Albion, Roberto Di Matteo, was named Manager of the Month.

Odemwingie joined the Baggies from Lokomotiv Moscow in August and has made an instant impact in England, scoring on his debut, and adding two more goals in his five starts for the club.

It is an impact which has seen West Brom tak seven points from three games in September, including wins over Manchester City and Arsenal.

They now lie sixth on the log and could be well higher, if they can claim three points from Bolton later in on Saturday.

Anyone wishing Osaze to move to a higher club by January is not wishing him well, cuz we all know that if he does, the would end up benching him. I suggest, he remains at Westbrom for one or 2 seasons, by then, the club can easily attract high profile players. After then, it would be ok for him to leave or even continue, depending on the level of success the club reaches, which i'm confident about. I was one of those that kept on saying, that people would be proven wrong about WestBrom and here it is...It's still on. I wish Osaze the best, at least for his honesty and humility.

@Promo... I dont agree with u, i think Osaze moving to a higher club by January wouldnt lead to him been benched. He is one of the best players in Nigeria, however, if u study his few games in England in respect to the ones for the nationa team, u will realise he is best positioned by a better coach, all he needs is a far better coach like the 'special one' to make him display his real talents. E.g Mikel playing in chelsea and super eagles shows a different ball game. well, its just my opinion, i think since he is 28 now, he really needs to go higher before the next WC.

Congrat, althogh it is too earlier to say whether u r good or bad, i have seen many of this bf and nothing happen at last. Utaka,Martin has done morethan this in their 1st season and ended up relegation. Even Hull City top League in their 1st 5 matches of the season.

I pray he can sustain the tempo till the end of the season. I will not advise him to leave West Brom in January or even next season. Football should not be about jumping ship everytime, there should be some level of gratitude to a team that gave him the chance to fulfil his dream. Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea had all the money but snubbed him and thought he was not good enough so why should they now take him from West Brom. More importantly, he should learn from John Utaka who was doing really well in France before he came to Portsmouth and the environment was not right for him. WestBrom seems to be the perfect environment for him now and who knows, the team may end up qualifying for Europa league.

Pls Osazee dont listen to anyone saying you should move up to a bigger team by january window.I'm so convince that these are the same people that had bn critizing you all these while. You're already up there my man, thanks to this great news.Thinking of moving could distabilize you leading to lack of concentration n ultimately leading to lack of form. Then these enemies of progress will come back to hunt you.
