Michael Helegbe returns home after Euro flop

Former national Olympic football captain Michael Helegbe is back in Ghana to resurrect a career that has gone spectacularly wrong.
Helegbe begun training with his former club Liberty Professionals on Tuesday and will be signed to the Dansoman outfit in due course for the Glo Premier League.
He is one of many ex Liberty players back at their Carl Reindorf base to resurrect ailing careers but the club has confirmed former Black Stars defender Kofi Amponsah is not one of them.
Helegbe joined Guingamp in France in 2006 on leaving Liberty in but struggled to tie down a first team place and could not cut it either in the Belgian Second Division before making the decision that home sweet home.
Yet his return marks a massive decline in fortunes. He captained Ghana in the 2008 Olympic Football qualifiers in a team that included the likes of Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah, Isaac Vorsah and Prince Tagoe, all key members of the Black Stars now.
