MTN rescues Ghana FA Cup

Ghana's top Cup competition the FA Cup will return this season after a nine year absence with a three year GHC 3-million sponsorship deal with MTN.

The Ghana Football Association and clubs from the two top divisions met on Tuesday to iron out the fine details but a proposed date and modalities for the competition is yet to be agreed.

The competitions will primarily involve the 16 Premier League clubs and the 48 from the First Division as well as some selected division two clubs.

The earlier rounds will involve division one and division two clubs to prun the number down drastically.

The clubs at the meeting also agreed that a commission of 15 per cent from the three year sponsorship dealbe paid to Avanti Sports consult who clinched the sponsorship deal.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko were the last winners of the FA Cup in 2001.
