Amajimbos did not get off to a good start in their Argentina tour, loosing their first practice match in Buenos Aires.

The South African Under-17 national team went down 1-0 to the youth team of Argentino at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Argentino juniors are the defending Argentine junior national champions.

Amajimbs head coach, Solly Luvhengo was impressed with the performance of his charges, but not happy with the result.

"Amajimbos played well against the defending champions of junior football in Argentina. We were matched against a highly ranked junior team in Argentina but managed to play really well with 17 shots at goal, but we just failed to convert. I think we could have, and should have done better.

"The purpose of these games is really about development within the team and I must say I am seeing lots of potential from the new players like Tumelo Mopedi from Orlando Pirates as well as our new goalkeeper Steven Hoffman who saved seven good shots from the Argentine side," said Luvhengo.

The South Africans will play their second practice match tomorrow when they take on the youth team of Boca Juniors, another highly ranked Argentine team.

"I am hoping to see a much improved performance when we play our second match on Wednesday. I am also positive that my team will continue from where they left off in terms of attack-minded football, but this time convert the chances they will get. I have a strong feeling that this time we will do very well in preparation for an even bigger clash against the Under-17 National team of Argentina," said the coach.

In their final match on tour, Amajimbos will lock horns with the Under-17 National team of Argentina in an international friendly match.

The clash will be played on Saturday, 02 October.

Where are we going to get future Bafana players if this continues to become a norm.No wonder players like Nomvethe find it hard to retire as yet since they are the ones shining in our country.

You say going to argentina is going to help the development of south african football... but how is south african football going to benefit if the players that are actually playing for amajimbos are not the best in the country, they just take preference because they play for a top soccer development side in south africa. Can you honestly tell me that all 23 players in that squad are actually the 23 best in this nation in the u17 category? Or South africa is taking another short cut to success in Football by not actually looking around in all areas of the country and not only allowing the players that are 'connected' because they know a certain somebody in a high area, get selected for the side. How is Bafana Bafana ever going to win a world Cup if South African junior sides are not even picked correctly. This is the precise reason why Amajimbos lost to a club side. Have you actually ever heard of such nonsense. A club beating a country. It's like Argentina coming down here and loosing to Kasier Chiefs. I really hope you think about this...
Thank you
