Moses Spandeel seems to have re-discovered his fearsome form, if his Wednesday's performance is anything to go by.
The Bloemfontein Celtic striker was a hero for Phunya Sele Sele yesterday.
He dished out a Man-of-the-Match performance when his club beat AmaZulu 3-1 at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium. Spandeel scored a brace in that game. He was a menace to the visitors' defenders as they struggled to contain his pace.
"It was a nice feeling to score two goals on the night. Credit must go to my team-mates for coming to the party. We played more as a team rather than as individuals. We also complimented each other on the field. When the rain started pouring down during the match, we knew it was a blessing for us," Spandeel tells KickOff.com.
"I'm not totally happy about my performances so far this season. I think I should improve on my finishing as I missed plenty of clear-cut chances against AmaZulu. I'm optimistic I will definitely regain my confidence as the season progresses," the Klerksdorp-born player says.
Ironically, Spandeel was put on the transfer list during the off-season by ex-coach Owen Da Gama, but Clinton Larsen gave him a second chance when he took over the coaching reigns at the start of the current campaign. Now his faith in the player is starting to pay off.
"I was disappointed to be put on the transfer list after being loyal to the club for so many years, but I told myself that everything happens for a reason. Now that I've been granted another opportunity to play for the team, I'll do my best to help Celtic win things," he says.
"I love this club with all my heart. Celtic gave me a chance to play my professional football. So I don't want to let the team down," he adds.
'Mara', as Spandeel is affectionately known in football circles, admits last season was not his best. He was involved in a car accident, and also lost his girlfriend through death.
"The sooner I forget about last season the better. It was the worst in my football career. So I need to put everything behind me and focus on the job at hand.
"I don't want to set myself a goal target, but I would like to score loads of goals for the team. But I won't put myself under unnecessary pressure. I'll take every game is it comes," Spandeel concludes.
