NFF corruption case adjourned

Posted: 2010-09-09 13:04

The corruption case brought against four former officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been adjourned until October 5.

Justice Donatus Okorowa of the Abuja Federal High Court also disclosed that his officials have begun a verification of the documents of sureties produced by the four defendants for bail.

Former NFF president Sani Lulu, Vice-president Amanze Uchegbulam, secretary-general, Bolaji Ojo-Oba and chairman of the NFF technical committee, Taiwo Ogunjobi, have been handed a 10-count charge for corruption.

The charges were brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the country’s anti-graft agency.

The charges against the officials include mismanaging a World Cup budget of 900 million naira (about 6 million US dollars) and paying out allowances to unauthorised officials totalling over 800,000 US dollars.

The officials will also answer to charges of incurring a fine for a last-minute change of a World Cup training base for the national team and forking out 400,000 US dollars to stage a friendly against Colombia in London before the World Cup.

Nigeria bowed out of the World Cup after the first round.

The officials were first quizzed by EFCC in July. They have been in detention since Monday.

I am sad that our football has come to this....I was always attracted physically to Taiwo Ogunjobi. He is a big disappointment to me now.

Spending, spending, spending Oh Lord where are you while the masses are suffering?why letting the masses to suffer in the hands of Sani Lulu and co. I know that God intervention is the best and i strongly believed that those who embezzles nigeria money will surely pay for it. I rest my case for God to intervene for us that does have mouth.

Azubuike: 2010-09-10 14:40

How about the unauthorised officials that were said to have received money, they also should be made to account for the crime they commited aswell since the payment is ilegal.

I think the time to stop talking is here,we have to move as ordinary Nigerians and stop the aid of FIFA on corruption in our sport.
What else does FIFA need to kw? That the people we HAD and have in our football house are all corrupt, and yet they still aid them by threating 150million Nigerians with a BAN.
Is Fifa happy with the state of football in Africa? No development, corruption happening every where, the leagues are 40years backward compared to leagues in Europe.Does fifa like Africa being backward?corruption and unprofessionalism are one of the reasons any African team has not passed the quarter final of the world cup,it seems to me that FIFA is happy with that.
we must all stand against FIFA and let them know that our fight against corruption is greater that their rules.
I heard there was group set up here to move Nigeria football forward, has this group written to FIFA as ordinary Nigerians? The likes of chief segun odegbami cant do it alone,we must help them fight this WAR.
From next month when i get my acts together i wld send fifa a letter once every week until they allow law take its place in Nigerian football with out a ban.
should we write as a group or as individuals?
I got this fifa addy on line!any other addy? or email?
