Fifa plans to get rid of draws

World football's controlling body Fifa has stated its intentions to find a way to get rid of a negative approach to matches.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter says the days of teams 'parking a bus' at the back with the intention  to play out a draw, especially at the World Cup, are numbered.

"In the first few matches of the group stage in South Africa (World Cup), we witnessed some teams that went out to avoid defeat, that were playing for a draw from the outset. This is a topic that I would like to discuss at the upcoming football and technical committee meetings," the Swiss tells Fifa.com.

For instance, on June 25 at the Moses Mabhida stadium during the World Cup in South Africa, Portugal knew they needed only a draw to progress along with Brazil in Group G and applied a defensive strategy, finishing the match goalless and despite the Ivory Coast beating Korea DPR 3-0 on the same day in the same group, Portugal's point was enough for them to progress to the second round. It is the kind of approach Portugal employed in their match against Brazil that concerns Blatter.

"We have to try to find a way to encourage free-flowing football in tournaments like the World Cup, with teams playing to win. We plan to take the opportunity to look at the concept of extra time as well. Often we see teams set themselves up even more defensively in extra time, in an attempt to avoid conceding a goal at all costs.

"To prevent this, we could go directly to a penalty shoot-out at full time, or reintroduce the golden goal rule. We'll see what emerges from the committee meetings," Blatter adds.

I see fifa is trying to make teams like SSU learn to play i diski. way to go. fifa should also do something to teams registering, say 10 quality strikers and playing only 4 for the whole season, the other 6, i tell you go to waste ask Chabangu, Mbesuma, Monterio, Phala, lentjis etc. stupid sonflops

This is clever especially in the WC coz there is a lot at steak, it will make a game more intense and exciting. As for golden goal am not sure, at least extra time and penalties will be a good deal for fans as opposed to Golden goal which could be scored in 1st minutes. I prefer last minutes goal in fulltime then 1st minute goal in extra time that decide the match. In xtra time when 1 scores it even brings more excitement as the other team wants win it equally so.

I support the idea 100%. But I'll be particularly happier if they get rid of the extra time. It's about ****** time. we are tired of teams playing for the sake of holding their own against the so called the big teams. Newzealand was the perfect example during the recent world cup. They did not lose a single match but they didn't win one either.

Walker, how did extra impact on Newzealand results, instead if it was there, they would have either won or lost. As I said earlier extra time and penalties give results, this will make team to score more goals, if they lose the rather do it in high scores like 3-2 and so on.

Worst idea that Blatter has ever uttered. Football is about 3 possibilities: win, lose or draw. Taking that out of the game is reducing the tactics & strategy of the game. Of course we all want attacking football but is the chance of a penalty shoot-out going to make New Zealand attack against Italy? Of course not, they will say let's play for the draw because we can get 3 points by winning the 50/50 of a penalty-shootout. This suggestion has to be canned!

I think going straight to the Penalties will help. Way to go.
