Larsen: We should have done better

Despite his team’s convincing win over AmaZulu yesterday, Clinton Larsen believes his troops should have done better.

Bloemfontein Celtic registered their first victory of the season when they defeated Usuthu 3-1 at home. This win was also the first for Larsen in his career as a coach for the PSL side.

"I'm happy about yesterday's good win over AmaZulu. We played well as a team and deserved the three points. However, I think we should have punished AmaZulu properly by scoring more goals," Larsen tells KickOff.com.

"After scoring two goals before the break, we should have taken more control of the game. We took our foot off the pedal a little bit in the second-half and allowed AmaZulu room to manouevre. We also created good opportunities but failed to convert them into goals," the coach adds.

"Although I’m happy about that win, I believe we still have a lot of work to do. We must work hard on our finishing," he says.

Prior to Wednesday’s match, Larsen was preparing the team without an assistant coach. His first official match in charge of the team was the MTN8 Cup encounter against Kaizer Chiefs which Celtic lost 1-0. That game was followed by another 2-0 loss to Ajax Cape Town in their season opener. But now the Free State side have since appointed Molefi Ntseki as an assistant to Larsen.

"There was a lot of uncertainity in the team when we kicked off the season. We didn’t register some of our foreign players in time. I also didn’t have an assistant. Now that the dust has settled, we can focus on getting positive results," Larsen says.

Celtic travel to the Rand Stadium to face Kaizer Chiefs on September 18. Larsen knows it is going to be a stern test for his newly-assembled side to steal a point away from Amakhosi.

"It's going to be a tough match for both teams, but we will do our utmost best to get a good result against them," former Manning Rangers player adds.

Clinton, don't be unapreciative, Amazulu had themselves to blame by not using their opportunities, jus say you did well but still room for improvement or that is why you meant to say or you were misqouted. This was anybody's game but a better team won on the day
