Flamingoes beat hosts, hit quarters

Loveth Ayila scored with five minutes to go as Nigeria broke the resistance of hosts Trinidad and Tobago with a 2-1 victory. 

The result, coupled with Korea DPR's win over Chile, propelled the Flamingoes to the quarterfinals.
They now need just a point from their final group game against the already eliminated Chile to top the group.

Buoyed by their opening day victory over the Asians, Nigeria were on the offensive from the get go, with Halimatu Ayinde going close after five minutes, before setting up Sarah Nnodim for another miss.

Oluchi Ofoegbu then rattled the crossbar from 25 yards as the Nigerians laid siege on the hosts.
Reward came on 28 minutes when a ball over the top found Francisca Ordega, and she beat the advancing goalkeeper with a looping header.

The Flamingoes then went on to throw away a multitude of other opportunities and were made to pay the price nine minutes before half-time.

Nigeria goalkeeper Amina Abu sprinted off her line to deny Jonelle Warrick, and three confused Nigerian defenders bumbled into each other on the goalline, allowing Liana Hinds to profit from the rebound.

The Flamingoes continued the second half from where they left off in the first, creating, then squandering numerous opportunities.

They were lucky to escape retribution when Jo Marie Lewis saw her effort from inside the box saved, and Khadisha Debesette fired the rebound over.

With nearly all the players camped behind the ball, T&T were hoping to steal a point from the encounter when substitute Winifred Eyebhoria crossed from the left and Ayila applied a simple finish.
 
The late goal means T&T must defeat the Koreans in the final group encounter to avoid elimination.

Why are people always ready to malign Nigerian achievement.... alluding Nigerian players are overage, I think younger women will be faster than older women, age catch up with women faster than men. If Nigeria is using over age, it might not be to the advantage of the team.

The fact that we have a record of cheating at age group competition does not make every other country a cheat. It is practically impossible to cheat when u grow up in a place like Germany.

I don't understand people who keep harping on age-cheating whenever a team does well in an age-group competition.
I fail to see how playing older women profits a team playing against teenage girls.
Once a girl is over 20 years old, it shows, people! A man can get away with age-cheating between the ages of 16 and 21. But a girl?

@Jafar, I hope you are a Nigerian as you stated in your post. We are not doubting the fact that corruption is a big problem in Nigeria but that should not make us label all Nigerians as cheats. If our teams win, we say they are overaged and playing against their younger ones, if they lose, we label them as overaged players that have passed their prime. What is the difference between the T&T and the Nigerian players in the picture above, yet you stated that the T&T players looked U17. Na wa oooo, remember that T&T is not England or America where record keeping could be perfect.

Why are u guys disturbing yourselves about age here. Southafricans say we use overaged girls simply because our girls win superlatively. Since they don't ave a concrete prove to back up their claim, then it's all baseless allegation. Nigeria has pedigree in age grade competition, meaning that even if we parade six year old players they wil still do us proud. Frankly speaking, nigeria is the only african country that can represent this continent credibly well. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? Have always considered myself not to be a coward so if something needs to be said, I always do. Am sorry if what am going to say will offend some people or hit a nerve, to start with, am a Nigeria and I love my country, there is nothing that I want more than to see us do well in everything we do especially sport. I watch our match with Trinidad Tobago and I must say, do those girls from Trinidad look to young leggy and gangly for their age or is it our girls that look quit mature for their age. Anyway my conclusion is: our girls look older because they are from Africa and that in Africa most of us as a hard up-bringing, then I saw the Ghanaian’s girls today and I must say they look quit young for their age, just like the girls from Trinidad. I understand the argument that some people just look older than their age, but for crying out loud there is a university in my town in Nigeria in fact just few block from my house, and I tell you, I have an idea what those jam bite looks like, on that not I say no more.

Jarfar, I lived in Germany before I relocated to Austria! Simply put, Nothing is impossible in Germany!
Can you tell me why Frank Ribery did not know he was having *** with an underage prostitute? Cos looks can be deceiving!
If you see those German girls, you will eat ur words. there is little or no difference btw those girls that played the U-20!
We only likes to blow our own yansh in public.
FACT: in all the teams participating in that U-17 FiFA competition, there is atleast 2 age cheats in every team.

When you get pregnant, you go and see you doctor, your doctor who already have your details will now forward them to hospital to get you an appointment to register with a midwife and for scanner, all this process, your details are now all-over the place. And when you give birth to your baby, the hospital have details of the birth, parent’s names, time of birth, the weight of the baby, then you will be told to register your Childs birth at the registry not later than the date given to you. So Freeman, the hospital have the details so is the registry, then you have to let the tax office know, so you can get tax rebate, you need to inform the child benefit as well, so my brother if you think age cheat is possible in civilize country, where are they going to hide the child with all this paper-work, and why will anybody want to hide their age when it’s not even their property, its public, it belong to the government, + the parents need it for tax rebate, child benefit and many more goodies, not to talk of pre-school, daycare and so on, SO MY BROTHER Freeman, because Ugonna don’t feel comfortable talking about this very important issue don’t mean is a moron, is not, in- fact his right.
