Orlando Pirates have suffered a blow after inform Malawian striker Chiukepo Msowoya failed to train with the team this week ahead of today's League match against Free State Stars at the FNB Stadium.
Msowoya only arrived back in the country on Tuesday. He scored to help his country secure a point away from home when Malawi drew 2-2 against Tunisia in the Afcon qualifier game at the weekend.
However, the Malawian striker is confident of fighting his way back into the team when the Mighty Buccaneers meet Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby on the weekend.
"It was nice to score again for my country and I hope to continue doing the same for Orlando Pirates.
"I would have loved to be part of the team against Free State Stars but couldn't train with them this week as I only arrived on Tuesday."
However, despite the absence of Msowoya, good news for the Ghost is that Nigerian striker Ezenwa Otorogu is set to be available for selection for Pirates after receiving his work permit.
Meanwhile, further news from Malawi is that an English Championship club is reported to be tracking Msowoya.
Reports are that scouts from an English outfit that has not been named were dispatched to watch Malawi play Tunisia in the 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier at the weekend and to particularly assess the 21-year-old player.
"An English scout for a championship club came to watch Malawi play Tunisia in Tunis. Apparently they were tracking Chiukepo," said a Malawi football official.
"They will possibly keep on tracking him at his club and national duties. He is a sensation," the official told Nyasa Times.
Chiukepo whois a sharp goal shooter, was on the score sheet helping Malawi to a 2-2 draw with Tunisia.
"I am very happy that I have once again contributed to the team and helped my country get at least a draw against Tunisia," Msowoya says on OPFC’s website.
"Look, it’s not easy to come back from behind against a team of Tunisia’s calibre, but we did it because we want to see ourselves playing in the 2012 Afcon finals.
"It was a good goal, one for the archives of course," he said of his 35-meter strike.
"Altogether, I think the goal came at the right time just when I am starting to find my footing at the club."
"It’s a huge confidence booster and I hope it paves way for my first goal for Pirates which I hope to score very soon."
