Former youth international midfielder Cyril Zuma has finally surfaced after overcoming a drug and alcohol problem and will be knitting back the pieces of his career this season at First Division Nathi Lions.
Zuma last played in the professional ranks more than two years ago when he was shown the door at Mpumalanga Black Aces for allegedly reporting to camp ‘high’ prior to their match against Witbank Spurs.
Nathi coach Sammy Troughton confirms that Zuma has been signed, while club’s communications manager Lucky Doyisa adds that they are convinced that the player has put behind him his past habits and deserves another chance.
“I believe that Cyril has dumped his previous bad habits, which is why he is concentrating on his football now. Why shouldn’t we give him a chance when he is also showing in the way that he is working that he now wants to play football?
“I firmly believe that we will see Cyril back doing what he does best on the football field,” says Doyisa.
Zuma, who played for both Amajita and AmaGlug-glug, winning 29 caps before going on to make a single substitute appearance for Bafana Bafana, was on the brink of signing for Moroka Swallows when his troubles started.
He trained with Mike Makaab’s academy in Durban last year when he started on the road to rehabilitation.
