SuperSport ready to start climbing the ladder

Posted: 2010-09-07 12:38

Reigning League champions SuperSport United will be aiming to lift themselves off the foot of the log table when they host Mpumalanga Black Aces at Super Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Kick-off is at 19h30.

SuperSport suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bidvest Wits in their opening League encounter; a result that sees the three-time champs surprisingly propping up the table.

However, Gavin Hunt's men will probably be in a much better frame of mind coming into this game after a 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates this past weekend in the Mopani Mayor's Charity Cup.

Black Aces also come into this game off the back of a defeat.

They went down 3-2 at home to Platinum Stars in a game in which they twice held the lead and conceded an injury-time goal.

AmaZayoni, with their virtually all-new team, are still finding their feet but will hope that a game against the defending champs galvanises them into a cohesive unit.

Head-to-head stats show that United and Aces have met 14 times in the League since 1990 (back when SuperSport were still known as Pretoria City).

AmaZayoni have won seven games to Matsatsantsa's three. Yet the Mpumalanga side's last win over their Pretoria counterparts came way back in 1994.

At home, Aces have lost just once to SuperSport in seven meetings.

Last season, United handed Aces three heavy defeats in their two League games and one Cup encounter.

SuperSport won 5-0 away and 3-0 at home in League matches, and 5-1 away in the first round of the Telkom Knockout Cup.

What do you think the score will be between the two sides?

Who cares out Supersport? By the end of this season:
- Cheaps will be propping up the table from the rear end
- Cheaps strikers, COMBINED, will have scored less than 10 goals
- The smelly armpit fans will be baying for Beefsteak's blood, prompting him to ask again, "whose team is this"?

All the Kaizer Chiefs haters have never succeeded in proving why Chiefs in NOT the biggest club.
Chiefs have phenomenal successes both on-the-field and off-the-field.
On all the levels of on-the-field competitions, Chiefs has massive successes ... Just a glimpse on the on-the-field successes.

ON-THE-FIELD

Level 1: League Championship
Chiefs has won 10 league championships in 40 years

NB: No SA Club has done better, even those much older

Level 2: Official Domestic Competitions
Chiefs has more than 60 Cups

NB: No SA Club comes even nearer

Level 3: Continental Competition
Cup Winners Cup Winners
Africa Club of the Year 2001

NB: Pirates has won the most prestigious competiton in ths level though.

-----
Please note that these excludes such competitions as Charity, Friendly Tournaments, Vodacom Challenge.

Can any SA Club do better than this?

Now that the so called BIG 3 have won their opening games, I want to see as to wether they will manage to be consistent or not. As for SSU, I will comment after the 10th game has been played.

Thanx for the stats Khosi(kazi)........So u are saying in the first 20 years Cheats won 8 championships and have only escaped with 2 in the last 20 years and u call this successs!!!!! Yeka leyombamba mani. How could a sucessful club not have played even in the semi finals of African champions cup? Nevertheless thank Bamjee for enabling u to grab a few of those championships in those dark days of football. Now that bribing has been reduced to a minimum.....nizosokola.

MightyKhosi: 2010-09-07 14:31

KaMashobana

I thought you'd counter these stats by presenting the 'better' ones of your team, but as usual try to belittle Chief's success. Ag Shame!

Don't confuse yourself here: Between 1990 and 2010 (which is 20 years), Chiefs won the league in 1991, 1992, 2003/2004, 2004/2005 ... So where does the 2 league championships come from?
Mind you, this excludes the Coca-cola Mini-League Chiefs won when the NSL was replaced with the PSL in 1996.

As for the era of Bhamjee, where was Bhamjee in the first 20 years when KC won the 8 championships? And since Bhamjee was left the scene, how many Cups did Chiefs win (I assume you would say KC won less?), and which 'well-deserving' Club won more Cups than Chiefs during that time? Just in the past te years since the year 2000, KC won atleast one Cup a season. Where was Bhamjee during this time, and which Club did better than Chiefs?

Stop being a *****y, jealous and confused loser ... Kaizer Chiefs rules and rest follow.

Shapa Khosi, shapaaaaa!

Bonga: 2010-09-07 14:32

@KaMashobana I can't agree with u more broer! Success is minimal at Naturena since bribery has been reduced. Remember the league game against Bucs in 1992 whereby the likes of David Nyathi were on song. Jeff Butler entered into the field of play and kicked the ball out while Bucs were toying with KC. What punishment did he get for that? Nothing! They are counting the likes of Macufe Cups and being Runners Up to some competitions including the Vodacom Challenge.

MightyKhosi: 2010-09-07 13:36 clearly you like opinions, just like all other Chiefs supporters.

go to www.superbrands.com and see which Products are classified as top brands in SA, Chiefs is not one of those. there is Coca-Cola, Toyota, Vodacom, Pirates etc... but not Chiefs nor Sundown. Even Amabhokobhoko and Proteas are rated lower than Pirates, as big brands in SA.

Info on this website is based of Facts and researched info not your useless opinions.

MightyKhosi: 2010-09-07 13:36 you need to do your homework b4 opening your loud mouth.

Maybe you would like to visit WWW.Superbrands.com before u open your loud mouths and base your argument with facts! Pirates is rated amongs Coca-Cola, Toyota, Vodacom,FNB etc. No Chief nor even Sundowns in these ratings. This is based on researched info and Facts not you useless opinions. even Amabhokobhoko and Proteas are rated below Pirates, in term of being a top brand in SA.

Most Chiefs fan like opinions. Now I can believe when they say, “an empty vessel make lots of noise” Chiefs fans carry empty vessels upstairs. see the below extracted from WWW.Superbrands.com, about Pirates:

“Soccer is more than a sport in South Africa:
it’s a religion. With an estimated 22 million
supporters, it is far and away the most popular
sport in the country. According to a recent report
released by the South African Broadcasting
Corporation (SABC), Orlando Pirates is the
most-watched soccer team in the country with a
market share of 9.2 percent. A slice of the pie this
size indicates the interest and vibe generated by
the Pirates brand. So powerful is the brand today
that even supporters of other teams will watch
the Superbrand Pirates.”

Dont try to be SMART bro. Didnt you notice that those brands are based on a few categories which includes hte age of each and everyone of them???
And as for Pi-rats being above the Proteas and Springboks is because they are place alphabetically......
And last but not leaset go check on Volume III on the same website and come back and paste your baseless stats as you claim.
Next time dont read what suits you but the article as a whole.

Chiefs doesn't apear on Volumelll of this, for that matter, it doesn't apear on neither of these 3 volumes. Meaning it was never, ever being rated as one of the recognised Brands in SA, Mind you I am saying SA.

thabo: 2010-09-07 16:21

Mahlatse: 2010-09-07 15:59 [ Report ] Chiefs is not on even a single volume, meaning it was never even rated as one of the top brands in SA. See the below grading Criteria to qualify you to be a top brand.

Grading Criteria
•Market dominance
Does the brand hold a significant share of the market for its goods and / or services?

•Longevity
Does the brand possess or display the qualities and attributes necessary to make it resilient to negative market influences? •Goodwill
Is the brand generally perceived favourably by consumers and is it accepted without question or reservation? •Customer loyalty
Will the brand’s consumers choose it repeatedly and automatically over competing brands?
•Overall market acceptance

Is the brand a part of every day life for the relevant market segment, and is it automatically on the consumer’s list of choices for that product or service?

If a smart invester had to invest his money, and had to choose from Pirates and Chiefs who will he choose.

Unless if its a female invester then she will choose Chiefs but smart man invester will do his research and invest wisely on a Top Brand...

It is like Someone with a Degree (Pirates) and just someone who went to Technical Collage(Chiefs) and did N1,N2,N3 etc and make noise that he is educated.

MightyKhosi: 2010-09-07 17:50

Thabo, take a deep breath and ask yourself if Pirates deserve to be a 'super brand', judging it on the criteria mentioned there. Be honest to yourself and not just rush to celebrate something you can't even prove.

Otherwise you sound like someone so desperate to point out something which your team has and Chiefs doesn't.
