Kumasi Asante Kotoko's season got off to the worse possible start after they were downed at home by Kessben FC in Kumasi.

The Porcupine Warriors who are keen to celebrate 75 years as a football club with their a League title next year had hoped a change in management and technical head will propel them to a great start but they were undone by Richard Mpong's second half goal.

Kessben are awaiting ratification to become Medeama FC after a takeover but under their old name, they proved a handful for their former city rivals.

The loss by Kotoko was the only one by a home side on the opening day of the new Ghana season which recorded just one draw, seven wins and eleven goals.

Defending champions Aduana Stars recorded one of those seven wins. And it was in typical Aduana style with Bernard Don Bortey's deflected shot earning them a 1-0 victory over Real Tamale United and another clean sheet.

In Accra, Osei Pele continued his rich vein of goal scoring form from pre-season for Hearts of Oak with the lone goal in the Phobia side's victory over King Faisal.

BA Stars marked their return to the elite division with a 1-0 victory over Heart of Lions. The battle of newcomers between Tudu Mighty Jets and Ebusua Dwards ended 1-0 in favour of the home side, Dwarfs while Wa All Stars triumphed 2-0 over Liberty Professionals in Wa.

Stephen Manu scored the season's first hat trick to help New Edubiase to a 3-1 victory over Berekum Arsenals.

Bechem Chelsea and AshantiGold recorded the only draw the only goalless draw of the opening day in Sunyani.
