First Division side FC Cape Town have been found guilty of fielding an improperly registered player – Ivory Coast goalkeeper Noel Yobou – and fined R500 000 for the offence that took place last season.
However, Errol Dicks the FC Cape Town club owner has not been found guilty.
According to PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu, of the R500 000 fine, R100 000 is suspended for two seasons on condition that the club is not found guilty of a similar offence during the period of suspension.
The R400 000 fine is payable within 30 days from the date of this decision – September 3, and FC Cape Town also have to pay the costs of all sittings of the hearing.
The punishment meted by the PSL DC dashes the hopes of Ikapa Sporting who had been hoping that by bringing the case to the PSL boardroom, their Mother City neighbours would be docked points.
Ikapa were the club relegated from the Coastal Stream First Division last season and were hoping to use the boardroom to find their way back into the second tier league and have been training with such hopes.
