Second Division matches cancelled again

For the second week in a row, Safa has issued a letter to Vodacom Second Division clubs notifying them of yet another delay to the start of the new 2010/11season.
The third tier of SA soccer was supposed to kick off over the weekend of August 27-28; however, clubs are now going to have to play 'catch-up' and although no reasons were given for a further delay – it has been alleged that some referees are on strike while others are still waiting to be paid from last season.
One club owner who did not want to be named told KickOff.com that he had heard that the referees are on strike.
"We received a second notification from Safa," says the source. "No reason was given, but people are saying the referees are on strike for more money, and want to be paid on time as Safa apparently owes them from last season.
"They say their payments are regularly in arrears, and over and above that they want an increase in the match fee which I heard was R120 per game.
"We were ready to kick off, the registration cards are done but it was cancelled last Friday at noon."
