Sibaya – I'm still important to Bafana

Posted: 2010-09-03 10:42

Bafana Bafana midfielder MacBeth Sibaya says he is not bothered by talk that his time with the national team is nearing its end.

The Durban-born defensive midfielder has had to face questions regarding his age, 32, since Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane was quoted saying "I don't want to be stuck with old players when I am in Brazil for the World Cup" citing Sibaya as an example saying the fact that he will be 36 when the tournament kicks off in four years means he must gradually blood in the youngsters in the team.

However, Sibaya has since been called up for the Ghana friendly international and again he is in the team to face Niger tomorrow at the Mbombela stadium for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Sibaya says: "I knew from the beginning that one day I will leave the national team and I knew around this age I will face this kind of questions," he says. "I still believe I play a very important role in the national team regardless of the age and the age thing doesn't bother me at all. I still have a lot to contribute in the national team," he says.

"The experienced players in the team don't get the feeling that our contribution is now underestimated. We are given a chance to give advice when it is possible so we do feel that the experienced players still have a big role to play in the team," he continues.

Meanwhile, Sibaya says he is excited at the prospect of facing Barcelona after his Russian club Rubin Kazan was drawn in Group D as the Spanish giants for this season's UEFA Champions League.

"It is very exciting and a team like Rubin always wishes we could meet the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid. Fortunately, last season we came up against Barcelona and again this season we have them in our group. I believe we have a very good chance of progressing beyond this group, because against Barcelona last season we got three points at the Camp Nou and drew with them at home.

"We also have Panathinaikos and FC Copenhagen in our group, which are teams at our level, so I'm confident we can progress through," Sibaya concludes.

Are we really going to qualify for Afcon 2012, I doubt since one team from the group must make it, for me Egypt is the only stumbling block in this group, if Pisto does nt win by 4-0 2morrow lets forget. The only way for us to make it is to score 4 goals and play draw in Egypt.

All the best for the Champs league Ntuthuko, you've really held the flag high over the years and we are proud.

BUT! It's time for the younger guys to be given a run now, we've got enough 'bad' experience(Mbazo) in the squad, we now wanna watch abo Jali nabo Fatty Patty esiswini....winners know when to quit baba.

Tivani the Loskop Youth league president, it's okay....you can go on supporting Eritria or Orania for all we care....We need constructive comments tu!

Are we really gonna be "khuzaring" Tivani in each and every article? Doeas this add any value to this forum?

Tiyani Ka Mabasa I suggest you re visit kick off vision regarding the introduction of theis forum. I am quite sure that Kick off had some intentions and some expectations. Please use this to guide us wheather we should let go of this lovely and informative website and consider other competitors like Laduuma and supersport.

We cant really be reading crap and irrelavant comments from one person all the time. I really love Pirates but totally stand against this

Mesh - K 4 L: 2010-09-03 11:52

Here's how i see thing = Bafana v/s Niger

1.Khune > Will let one goal in(CHIPS WILL PRAISE HIM FOR THAT)
2.NGCONGCA > Not a BAFANA material
3.Masilela > Good cover at the back
4.Morgan Gould will cost us a lot
5.Mokoena > One of his best games(Ngoba sidlala nomswahla)
6.Letsholonyana > Our best midfielder (Pirates fans will complain)
7.Khuboni > He can't go forward & will be praised for nothing
8.Mphela > Worse bafana striker - runs aimlesly & can't even shoot
9.Teko Modise > Best player on the night - (ngoba sidlala nomswahla)
10.Shabalala > Too selfish player & will score (KHOSI FOR LIFE)
11.Parker > Played out of position, but will be too hot to handle
12.MacBeth > Shud consider rugby, but he is a good cover for inexperienced KHUBONI
13.Jali > Not a Bafana material yet,he can grow for 2014
14.Klate > Not a Bafana materila yet > too light for national team(bARks will kill me i know)

KHOSI FOR LIFE VIVA BAFANA BAFANA

Kickoff is demonic possessed. ppl dont understand why post only Teko's topic. There is an evil spirit in this forum and it needs to be rooted out. This evil spirit is an hatred towards the general. Kaizer chiefs Fans are demonic possesed with Teko's Hatreds. It must be rooted ouT! i will continue with Teko's topic until the demons tremmbles.

Guys, whoever doesn't want to read what Tivani is posting can simply ignore it, stop being cry babies and grow up. i would undertsnad if he was swearing, but no, he just post things about his favourite Teko, if you don't like it don't read it. this is a public forum and not everything is gonna suit you, so either you accept the reality of a public forum or leave, it is as simple as that.

All plastic NSL stolen trophies swears a lot, yet nobody wants him banned, yet Tivani whop just expresses his idolisation of Teko is crucified, why? unless Tivani starts swearing, kickoff should let him be.

The Sky is the Limit..........!!!!!!!

I disagree.

The same question can be asked about Teko,Pienaar,Mbazo,Shabba,Khune,Gaxa,Moriri and all the other players, what have they done for BafanaX2? nothing because the team has never achieved anything. that would be the case if one follows your logic. As for Papi Zothwane, he just flattered to deceive, never really was the real deal.

Sibaya has done it all in his club career, he was just unfortunate to be playing with loosers at Bafana Bafana. he is doing/has done what Teko,Mphela,Shabba,Pienaar and many only dream about, watch him on Champs league against Barca, stuff the above mentioned players and many more only dream off. lets give credit where its due, the guy is the real deal and a winner. something that can hardly be said about our favourite "stars"...!!!!

All plastic NSL stolen trophies, its good that you have decided not to swear again, because that was stupid and childish. disagree, poke but do not swear, that ain't cool. and i have nothing against you, i just used you as an example, sorry if i offended you!

he he he tivani stopped reading kickoff magazine coz Kaizer chiefs i s always on the cover...tivani that wont stop. chiefs is chiefs, period!

back on the topic, i like sibaya...even thou some of his passes are not that good, but he is commited and always focus. he can defend well, better than most of bafana players

kweziMonti: 2010-09-03 12:25

Age is just a number all that matters is your contribution on the field of play, each and every player on the field has a role to play based on the coaches tactics on the day.Sometimes tactics work sometimes they dont.

It is the role of the coaching stuff to vary the game plan when something is not working well, our role as supporters is to support the team.Pitso is going to do well believe me.

How the team will be structured for the game against Niger is an objective view based on the coaching staff's findings on the condition of the players vs tactics that will be employed on the day.

As for Teko he is a professional he should know better that when he gets his chance again he should grab it with both hands,we cannot leave on his past glory days.He knows how he got into the team he should just get his head screwed right.

All the best to Bafana we are all behind you 100%

South African ex-Red Quinton Fortune played 126 games for United and has been back at Old Trafford recently as a pundit for MUTV. He spared some time to answer fans questions on ManUtd.com...

What was it like to join one of the biggest clubs in the world? - Darryn 13
No words can adequately describe what it’s like for a kid from a township in Cape Town to be doing something like that. Never in a million years would you envisage leaving your country, never mind signing for Manchester United.

What was your favourite game for United? - Michael McNaghten
When I was growing up in South Africa we used to watch Italian football on television. AC Milan were my team and I had posters of Paolo Maldini on my bedroom wall. When I joined United and got to play against them, both at Old Trafford and the San Siro, you couldn’t put into words what it meant to me to be playing against players like Maldini, who I’d idolised. It was also a dream playing for United in Brazil’s Maracana Stadium. My first goal was in the Premier League against Bradford and what made that extra special is that my mum and dad were watching me play for the first time. So I have many favourite games!

You were known during your time at United as Mr Versatile. In which position did you prefer? - NS
I was signed for United as a left winger, but I preferred playing in the centre of midfield because I saw more action and it was great to play alongside Paul Scholes and Roy Keane, two great players. I enjoyed playing left back and also had a spell as a striker in the reserves.

How flattered were you when Roy Keane said that you were his first pick in training for five-a-side matches? - Nathan
Roy Keane was probably one of
the best midfield players there has been in British football. I respected him as a player and also as a man. He is somebody I looked up to and for him to pay me that compliment was special.

Who was your best friend at Old Trafford, and are you still in touch? - hkmutd18
I didn’t have one best friend – I got on well with everybody. But I used to live near Tim Howard in Bramhall and we used to hang out together. I've kept in touch with him.

Was it frustrating to join United months after winning the Treble and to miss out on being part of that historic moment? - Robert The Red
Of course I would have loved to have been a part of that team, but I have no regrets because I played for United when it was my time. It is an honour to play for United and I was lucky to be in a great side, which had the likes of Yorke, Cole, Scholes, Giggs, the Neville brothers, Beckham, Veron, Irwin, Stam and Johnsen.

Why are so few South Africans playing in Europe compared to other African nations? - Jong Hoo Lee
For players to improve they need to leave and go to play in England, Spain, Italy and France which have the best leagues in the world. Unfortunately the players in South Africa have a good lifestyle, earn decent money and see no reason to leave.

Had it not been for injuries, do you think you would have had a more successful career with United? - kbbk
Unfortunately injuries finished my career at United and were the reason I had to move on. It was hard to accept because, had I stayed fit, I believe I would have remained at the club.

Your comments are boring ndoda.

As for Macbeth Sibaya, he is a great player. In the last game he played, he managed to minimise the opponents movements which is what we need at time. As a coach I would field him along with Letsholenyane instead of Dikgacoi. Yeye can also go forward and is also creative not just defensive unlike Digkacoi.
