AmaGlug-glug coach Shakes Mashaba is continuing with his preparations for the 2011 All Africa Games and the crucial 2012 London Olympics.

This weekend he takes the team across the Limpopo River to play their Zimbabwean counterparts in two friendly internationals.

Both games are lined up for Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo - on Friday and Sunday.

Mashaba has already been holding camps locally for his team that is made up mostly of players that have graduated from the Amajita squad which qualified for the Under-20 World Cup last year.

Safa, through coach Pitso Mosimane, had originally wanted Bafana Bafana to have a practice match against Zimbabwe in Johannesburg on Wednesday, but Zifa turned down the offer and instead arranged to have AmaGlug-glug travel to meet the Young Warriors.

While Mashaba will be using the two matches as preparations for both All Africa Games and Olympics qualifiers, Zimbabwe will only be preparing for the continental games after they withdrew from the Olympic qualifiers.

Both countries will be minus several players that are with their respective senior national teams preparing for the Afcon qualifiers this weekend.

South Africa will be minus Kermit Erasmus, Keagan Ritchie, Siyanda Xulu and Andile Jali.

The AmaGlug-glug squad is:

Goalkeepers: Darren Keet (BidVest Wits), Thela Thela, Dalyen Hwes (Kaizer Chiefs)

Defenders: Sibusiso Mxoyana (Orlando Pirates), Michael Morton (BidVest Wits), Thulani Hlatshwayo (Ajax Cape Town), Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Phumelele Bhengu (both Moroka Swallows), Gladwin Shitolo (Jomo Cosmos), Luvolwethu Mpeta (University of North West)

Midfielders: Kamohelo Mokotjo (Feyenoord Rotterdam), Sameegh Doutie, Thulani Serero (Ajax Cape Town), Mxolisi Gumede (Free State Stars), Mandla Masango (Kaizer Chiefs), Bongani Theletsane (Jomo Cosmos), Sibusiso Khumalo (Mamelodi Sundowns), Sici Shelembe (Witbank Spurs)

Strikers: George Maluleke (Ajax), Dino Ndlovu, Bongani Ndulula (Bloemfintein Celtic), Thabo Moleko (all SuperSport)

Wonder: 2010-09-02 12:49

Another thing, why do they pick bench warmers? is it because of the prestige of their clubs or what? this is killing our football!!!

rhorhwesikhuni: 2010-09-02 12:52

I understand Ritchie, Erasmus and Jali are in the senior national team squad, but why is Xulu not part of the National Under-23 team? What is the reason for not having him in the Under-23, is there anyone enlightened on this matter out there who can enlighten me?

FISTOS: 2010-09-02 14:55

the only bench warmers are gaol keepers and that one from this chibuku team

April 21 1996 - The family of missing Soweto businessman Robert "Rocks" Dlamini said he had been demanding R1,5-million from Irvin Khoza at the time of his disappearance on April 6 1995.

December 12 1999 - Khoza was implicated in a R3-million car deal with National Intelligence Agency surveillance unit general manager Sizwe Mthembu. It was claimed that Mthembu channelled the money from his budget to Khoza, who was used as a middleman to buy the vehicles, but some luxury cars were instead registered in Safa's name and insured through its insurance company.

April 28 1996 - Confessed drug dealer Billy Villa told police that Khoza was linked to a R1,5-million Mandrax deal involving missing businessman and socialite Dlamini.

Villa claimed he smuggled R1,5-million to Bombay to buy Mandrax tablets for a syndicate headed by himself.

Wonder critical question indeed.

As long as they select from PSL pool, we will never achieve anything, these boys think they are stars already.

I would like to see boys from the CASTLE LEAGUE,Vodacom,Mvela and even Township domestic leagues, School leagues.

hey u 2 this is under 23 not under 12,how can u say schools and vodacom, yerr i used to respect u guys but today i m so dissapointed in the 2 of u,

1,who is a bench warmer in that squad except the gaol keepers and that one from pirates and the fatty boom ndlovu, from sundowns,

last time wen we qualified for olympics all palyers were playing for the top league in SA and abroad,

I think Siyanda Xulu and Matty Pattison need to get themselves a smart agent, otherwise they will hardly play for the national team. with all due respect to the current crop at under 23, Siyanda should be captaining that team and Pattison should be a regular feature at Bafana Bafana. Infact Xulu is even better than Sangweni and Booth and other national team centre backs!!

KING: 2010-09-02 15:53
i agree with u king but the fact is those guys are our chabangu's jabu's,malatsi's,and khanye's,yes they are gud but in the morden game u need to be disciplined, well groomed from a younger age with a gud eye, mentally anf phisycally u need to monitored evrytime and shakes squad mostly is players from all developments,so i don't have a problem with it,

U GO TO KASI AND GET THOSE GUYS U WILL REGRET THE DAY U BROUGHT THEM,THEY WILL INSULT REFREES AND DO ALL SORT OF NONSES COZ KO KASI ITS NOT A PROBLEM,
WE MIGHT END UP PLAYING WITH SIX PLAYERS ,COZ KO KASI IF THE CAPTAIN SAYS LETS WALK OUT OF THE FIELD THEY WILL DO THAT,

This is exactly what I was asking for, I'm so happy that Shakes had had the foresight to take advantage of this FIFA International Break. I'm just not really convinced by the strikeforce (no names jump at me). Where is Xulu though? Is he part of the u/20 team, injured or did Sundowns refuse to release him.

xavi : 2010-09-02 16:48

Y isnt siyanda xulu in d U23 squad bcuz he is nt in d bafana squad or sundwns stil thnks he is supsd 2 b in bafana squad.

Wandile : 2010-09-02 17:21

Bra Shakes also must take over the U20's. By the time these boyz ar 22/23 they should be starting to make their mark in the National Team.

fire: 2010-09-02 20:47

Guys, the way I understood this article is thus...Mashaba has been holding camps locally..Xulu meanwhile has been attending trials left, right and centre.Wasn't ****nal mooted in other sources of media? To assume Sundowns would refuse to release him is way far-fetched. Unlike with Pitso I have utmost confidence in Mashaba afterall he has travelled the road less travelled before.

Where is Siyanda Xulu & Masibusane "Zizou" Zongo in this team??? Mr. Mashaba please dont overlook these players, they can make a huge difference in the team if you want to qualify for these tourneys.
