Sangweni: Mosimane wades into Filipovic

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has come out in support of Golden Arrows Siyabonga Sangweni and blasted Abafana Bess'thende new coach Zoran Filipovic.
Mosimane was defending his decision to call up the defender whom Filipovic had claimed should never have been called up to the national team because he was unfit.
Mosimane told Business Day in a report published today that Sangweni should be protected rather than castigated for his fitness.
"We should be very careful. You have to see the bigger picture because we need these players if we are to qualify for the African Nations Cup. We have to support these guys."
Mosimane said he would not allow himself to be distracted by Filipovic and would prefer to concentrate on preparing for Saturday's opening 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
"I have to concentrate on coaching Bafana Bafana and nothing else.
"I am a professional coach and I cannot be worried by what other teams are doing. I am not going to pick his team for him and I am going to concentrate on what I am doing.
"We know our players and we know what they are capable of, regardless of what their coaches at club level are saying."
Serbian Filipovic, who is new to South African football after joining Arrows a few weeks ago, waded into a storm at the weekend when he questioned Mosimane's decision to select Sangweni to the Bafana squad to face Niger.
Sangweni missed several weeks of training in protest at Arrows after the last-minute collapse of his transfer to Kaizer Chiefs at the beginning of this month.
"I do not understand how he (Sangweni) can be there in Bafana," Filipovic said after Arrows were beaten 2-0 by Chiefs at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg.
"For myself it was better for him to stay with us because the guy needs more physical training. Even at our training, he was on his own because he is not on the same level as the other players.
"His physical condition is not perfect and it is not good because he did not train with us for nearly a month. And now he is going to the national team," said Filipovic.
But Mosimane told Business Day that there were several instances of foreign coaches being quick to relegate their players to the bench and then only realising their true potential when they saw them playing for the national team.
"Former Sundowns coach Henri Michel chose not to select players like Katlego Mphela, Matthew Booth and Siboniso Gaxa.
"Where is Mphela now? He was the top goal-scorer last season after we went against his decision and selected him to the national team."
Mosimane also said he was encouraged that players were no longer avoiding call-up letters to Bafana and were all eager to represent the national team.
"The guys are pitching up on time and no one is giving us problems honouring call-ups."
