Obuh angered by Okoro 'indiscipline'

Posted: 2010-09-01 08:06

National Under-20 coach John Obuh has been left fuming after midfielder Stanley Okoro turned up promptly at the Super Eagles camp.

Okoro, who was called up in place of the injured Joseph Akpala was named in Obuh's Flying Eagles squad, but proved unreachable, and Obuh was left unimpressed by his attitude.

"This is a player we made every effort to reach when we were preparing for our last African qualifiers, but no one could reach him. But today, he was invited to the Super Eagles and was the first to arrive camp," Obuh fumed.

Okoro was part of Obuh's Under-17 team which won the silver in 2009, and the coach has asked the NFF to caution his former ward.

"I expect the federation to caution him over such attitude. If we allow it to go unmentioned, that would be encouraging indiscipline of the highest order.

"He should be called to order before being allowed to feature for the Super Eagles, so that it would be a lesson to other players who would want to follow his example in future," Obuh said.

Alhaji: 2010-09-01 08:59

Thanks Banks, you took the words right out of my mouth. Now in addition to that it could also be that the fellow thought there was no need for him to take instructions from someone he is obviously older than.

9ja Voice: 2010-09-01 17:31

I am suprised at the comments I am reading. No abuse of the player.
This is not the same comment I saw during mikel saga.

Love some and hate some......

i have a hunch that okoro is not the age he claims.yes, by not reporting to the u-20 camp he proved to be undisciplined, but again i guess he should join his age mates, (and juniors in the super eagles.

As far as i know, stanley okoro is a very young lad...i am 31 years now, when i was playing under 16 in the 90s okoros elder brother was still not grown enough to come to arinze or uwa primary school to watch football when we where playing, echiejile was a ball boy at our training ground in water resources field off sapele road in benin city.it was one of my team mate that form under 8 for this little kids that where acting as ball boys to us,among this kids was echiejile...what i mean is that this kids many come to watch us without a pant on their waste, meaning they where very little children.and okoros elder brother was not grown enough to step out of the house without the company of the mother...okoros elder brother started playing under 10 when echiejiele was playing under 13.this are the fact that i know personally...before you condemn someone get some fact to back it up,or get yourself busy with something better instead of getting busy with pulling down other people.

realdave: 2010-09-01 23:00

@lanre...when coach Obuh invited stanley okoro to the under 20 camp, then okoro was in turkey, from their he went to spain after his contract in spain got finalise he spent sometime with the club in other to get use to the situation of things in his new found destination spain.then he went to naije immidiatelly the season ends as there was not any player or member of the club around anymore, getting to to naija he has to finalise is return back to spain at the embassy in nigeria and sort out general things...a player does not need to reveal so many things to the coauch because it might go to the media as fast as possible, some players keeps some things to themself because they want it to be private.

@ Realdave, May God bless you. We need more of u here to bring salient facts, not negative haters of all good things.
When the team loses, it's bad coach but, when they won, it's overage!!!

teeboy: 2010-09-02 02:32

RealDave. Please spare us your lies. No one will ever believe your bunch of lies trying to justify stanley is young. If he was a small boy when you were 16 and his brother was playing under 10, it is possible that stanley was 8 or 7 yr old then. Add 6 to 15 years ago (31-16), the answer is 21. So you are telling us Stanley is between 20 and 22 max. Even if he is 21, the guy is claiming 18 hence he is a cheat. Also, how can he play for Rangers, almighty Rangers of Enugu that is not his home town in 2005, are you saying he started playing top flight at age 15-16 in Nigeria. IF he was playing for one smaller club it would have been possible. Judging by the age he is even claiming its crazy to suggest he was playing for Rangers at 13 yrs of age. Haba. Fact is below

Years Club App (Gls)*
2005-2008 Enugu Rangers 50 (25)
2008-2010 Heartland F.C.
2010- Almería B

Look the boy is at least 28. Mark my word, Stanley Okoro will fade out within 7 years by then he'll be 35-36

baron: 2010-09-02 12:06

@teeboy thanks for giving us the informations and i am 100% sure that Stanley Okoro is more than 20 years old. Its time for nigeria coaches to use accurate age players not just an over age players. I like Okoro because he is a good player. He is our future hope in the super eagle but i am afraid that he wont play so much long for our senior team.
Just move on and you are gonna make it.
one love 9JA

Cool Cat: 2010-09-02 13:48

learn to believe others so that others will beleive you when it comes your turn, and try trusting the authority too as this people have all past through the age test. All this calculations amount to nothing but lack of trust amongst fellow country men,how do we move on ??, certaily not like this where everybody becomes a suspect.

Remy Martins : 2010-09-02 17:09

Jobless idiots always comes here to paste rubbish.People like Banks,Alhaji,Long, teeboy and baron are all living a miserable life that is why they write and paste what they don't know.None of them know any of these players.Yet they paste rubbish here, tarnishing the image of the players and of the country.Had Arjen Roben happened to be a Nigerian,u guys would paste here that he lies about his age, that he could be more than 36yrs.Can't u see that u people are idiots.Even if Stanley Okoro is 50yrs,he is better than u guys.@banks,Alhaji,long,teeboy,baron..u guys SUCKS!!!!!!

banks: 2010-09-02 21:12

Thanks Teeboy & Alhaji, guys lets call a spade what it is. we all played soccer in youth, it's not possible to play for a top leaque team at age less than 18. Doesn't he go to school and if not, which soccer academy or feeder team was he playing b4 joining Rangers and Heartland?
Problem with 9ja is, we always like to cut corners!!!!

Nero: 2010-09-03 17:36

wht do John mean by they could not reach him? how did they reach him now? Can we hear from the lad before condiming him? we should not forget that at the time John was talking, he Okoro was busy on getting his signature down 4 his new club.
