Name Eagles coach now, Eguavoen tells NFF

Austin Eguavoen has asked the NFF to name the new coach for the Super Eagles immediately to allow the new man time prepare himself for the task ahead.

Eguavoen has been in position in a temporary capacity since Swede Lars Lagerback departed after the World Cup, but says he is not desperate to handle the team.

"I am not desperate about handling the Super Eagles. I have contributed my quota for the team. I think this is the time for the Football House to unveil the new coach to enable him settle down for the task ahead," Eguaveon told The Nation.

Negotiations with coach designate Samson Siasia have stalled over the former international's personal terms, plus the uncertain situation at the Glass House leading up to last week's elections.

Eguavoen says it is time to make a quick decision, as he would leave the team after the Madagascar game.

"I was in Belgium when I was called upon to handle the team for this match. I was skeptical about it, but after second thoughts, I took it as a call for service, and accepted it."

That game will now be played on Sunday, after it was moved from Saturday.

Let my-garri or mai-soup,sorry maigari (NFF CHAIRMAN),come out straight to name the new super eagles coach now and stop all these excuses and politics. Or if he has changed his mind on SiaSia,he can invite Amoudu to start again. These men in glass house are toying with our only source of happiness (minus the world cup). When our president will raise his sledge hammer, they will start to seat-up or beg. My-garri ! my-garri!! my- g-a-r-r-i!!! How many times did i call u? Go and ask Galadima or MUMU,sorry LULU, the time is now, give us our super eagles coach to avoid had i known. Those in glass house, keep on throwing stones until......

Should Eguavoen perform wonderfully well against Madagascar, the NFF will be much willing to offer him the SE job - Yes, at a much lower rate. No one should be deceived, Eguavoen is a willing horse and will accept it.

Siasia should be considerate and allow logical reasoning prevail over short term material greed without being inadvertently expensive. This is his opportunity but anything can happen in Nigeria and if he (Siasia) loses the SE job, the heavens will not fall.

Billion: 2010-08-31 09:32

Sorry...I needed to add...
afterall,
1.Amodu was sacked few weeks to the WC
2.Lagerback came - stayed effectively for just 4wks & was paid $1.5m
3.Sanni Lulu and Ogunjobi left
4.The Presidency wielded the big stick- later made a volte-face
5.Maigari won a verbose election
and Now....ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN...Siasia needs prayers to get this job!!

Ugonna: 2010-08-31 10:40

@Billion
It will be the highest stupidity and foolishness of the highest order if NFF gives Eguavon the Super Eagles job for just winning Madagascar.

Winning Madagascar does not even need a coach to do that, even 9 men will be enough to beat them, so i think it will be political reason to appoint him as coach for just winning Madagascer.

On the side of Amodu, if Mai-Garri should appoint him as coach i think it will be the same ethnical reason wich Sani Lulu used to make him coach even attempting to retain him after his poor coaching perfomance at this years African Cup of Nations

I CAN SEE THIS NFF IS STILL THE SAME AS THE ONE DISOLVED. THIS PEOPLE ARE SICK AND NO NOTHING ABOUT ADMINISTRATION. WHY HAS THE NFF REFUSE TO LEARN. FRANCE NAME LAURANT BLANC EVEN BEFORE RAYMOND DOMINIQUE TOOK FRANCE TO THE WORLD CUP. MOST OF OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE SETTLED THE ISSUE OF A COACH WHILE WE ARE STILL SORTING OUT HOW TO EMBEZZLE MONEY BY ORGANISING MEETINGS. I HAVE LOST HOPE IN NIGERIAN AS A WHOLE BUT CANT BLAME GOD FOR MAKING ME A NIGERIAN. SHAME ON YOU.

Didier: 2010-08-31 10:46

Nice one,Eguavoen The other African teams that dissapointed along with Nigeria at the worldcup have all named new managers. I wonder what the NFA of is it NFF is waiting for.I guess they do not know how long it takes a coach to build a team.

canali: 2010-08-31 10:53

We have a lot of problem in this Country. You discovered that My-garri or Maigari is a politician to the core. That is why he (Maigari was just been patience to wait until he has taken over the mantle of leadership before he will dump the most choosen as in the person of SIA- 1 as the nation course. Well, everybody in the country Nigeria believes in the person of SIASIA but with much politicking I have seen in our system , these cabals in the NFA or NFF may likely give a bad name to sia 1 and gives out this job a less fancied couch just because of their corrupt tendencies in the GLASS HOUSE base on the fact that SIASIA is asking for too much from. What about the OYIBO man LAGGER BACK who did perform in the WORLD CUP in South Africa. I wish God will help us in this great country of ours without any future plans for the teeming youths. I remain hopefull, that the chance will definitely be given to sia 1. Thanks for a column like this. Allen

Maigari or Maiduguru, whatever your name is, if you succumb to the Eguavoen lobby group and upturn the poeple's choice coach for the SE, you and your family will be the only people at the stand to watch future SE games. You're going to handover to yourself. You appointed the committee that negotiated with Siasia for the SE job. Now you're saying, should Colins Udoh's report be true, that you'll be guided by the decision of the interview committee. Let that decision not be the sham deal that saw Lagerback emerge as the MOST QUALIFIED SE coach. Nigerians are watching and I hope you've not forgotten the circumstances that brought you to the position you're now handing over to yourself?

Ugonna: 2010-08-31 11:35

Obasanjo brought in EFCC to cover up his crimes, similarly Sani Lulu and his group brought in Mai-Garri and the same people to cover up there crimes.

When will this stupid politics end! Honestly, am just tired of this country!

Sarah: 2010-08-31 11:39

Maybe this man called Maigari OR MUMU want to put his brother there to handle SE coach

Sarah: 2010-08-31 11:43

WHERE IS OUR PRISENDENT GOOD-LUCKY,I think he have to look into this problem if he really want to move our sports in nigeria forward.

john: 2010-08-31 12:21

Abeg Mr. President come and help us!!!!!. Those politicians in Glass house has started again. Please look into this and given them instruction in a right direction whereby our football would be moving forward again. Siasia is the right person to handle the Super Eagles, Other local coaches has tried and fall.

steveenoch: 2010-08-31 13:04

we have lost hope in all our leaders both the present and the past. Let them do the worst, God remains God. When the wicked rules the ppl suffer but the day the righteous takes over, there shall be great rejoicing. That day is very close. pls give other ppl chance to do what they know best.

mike: 2010-08-31 13:42

WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE SAYING DESPITE SIASIA THEN WHAT HAPPENS? THERE ARE MANY COACHES OUT THERE IN NIGERIA. I DONT EVEN BELIEVE HE IS BETTER THAN EQUAVOEN .

Agbe: 2010-08-31 14:05

@Billion,
am shocked to hear you say it is wrong for a black man to demand what he thinks he needs to do a good job? Our last two western coaches where given all the support they needed and paid handsomely, now Siasia want some money so he can hire the best hands which will enable him do the best job he could, He wants the same total support giving to the last two western coaches, he thus not want a situation where he will have to run back to the NFF all the time when he should be on a practice field with his player, he thus not want the ineptitude of the guys in the NFF to hinder his plans for the eagles, now Billion said, Siasia is not considerate, for what? I don’t know, Billion now said Siasia no get common sense, and that Siasia is after short term material greed, why is that? Because he wants a flat to leave in, a cook to cook his food, I think his family is in USA, and a car and a driver to travel the length of our great nation in search of quality players. Whet is material greed about that? Do you want him to cook for himself, and then drive to Kano from Abuja, from there back to Lagos, Asaba; he will be too tied to work after that. Mr Billion may God give you the fortitude to know your worth and the wisdom to know what you need to do a great job without distractions and hindrance from left and right. Siasia is not expensive my brother, the old NFF always complain about lack of fund, now did you not see the numbers of hidden bank accounts with all the Naira`s and dollars. And again if Siasia did not get the job, that’s not the end of his life.

baron: 2010-08-31 14:10

Well our president cannot intervein in what has been happening into our football house. It due for every nigerians that love sport to come and and protest against what has been going on in the glass house. We are all tired of what has been going on in nigeria sports. God does not sleep,he is washing maigari and gangs. They will surely pay for this if they refused to installed Siasia and the coach of super eagle.

Really nice of Danny ****tu, to come up with this idea. Enjoy!

Nigeria defender ****tu plans for Nigerian youngsters

Danny ****tu says he wants to give back to the Nigerian youth
Nigeria defender Daniel ****tu has set up a competition that will see one lucky Nigerian footballer win a year's contract with a top Belgian side.

The Soccer Star Project will consist of regional trials throughout Nigeria from which one winner will be chosen.

****tu, who is on the books of Bolton Wanderers in the English Premier League, says he wants Nigerian youngsters to fulfil their ambitions.

"I'm only interested in seeing people live their dreams," he told BBC Sport.

Open trials will be held in Enugu, Kano, Kaduna, Abuja and Lagos with ten players aged between 16-24 years chosen from each region.

The 50 young footballers will then head for a final round of trials in December from which one winner will emerge.

The lucky youngster will be given a one-year contract with Belgian first division side Royal Charleroi.

Two other players will win football scholarships to an American university.

According to ****tu, who was in the Nigerian team at the World Cup in South Africa, the idea stems from his desire to give something back to the Nigerian youth.

"Those of us that play for the national team are not necessarily the best players, we are just the lucky ones," ****tu said.

"I know how hard it is to earn a place in Europe and because of this many youngsters haven't had the opportunity to show [what they can do].

"I was rejected five times when I was growing up myself so I know how it feels.

"This is not like any other academy or game show, so only hard work and ability will influence the scouts," he continued.

****tu says he also hopes the trial will lead to more youngsters receiving educational scholarships.

"There is also an opportunity for some people to earn a four-year scholarship at an American university or college," ****tu said.

"Scouts will be coming from the USA for the final trial and if some fail to make the football grade then their educational intelligence could land them scholarships.

"We are not just looking at football ability but also at character, attitude and sound educational background."

Each of the top three players from the final trial will also get a cash prize of about $700.

The competition will run from October to December.

Austin, I hope you will not stoop so low to accept whatever NFF will offer you? If NFF offer is not at par with what Samson is demanding or even more, let it be known to you and all and sundry that you just mediocre coach. And any day you loose a match you are fired. This is the time the local coaches should rise up and be counted. I am happy to read that NFF requested you to hold the forth while you were in Belgium. That is a national service, so whatever NFF agreed to pay you would be a holding forth service fee or pay. But to be appointed a full coach, it is professional service, period.
