Zoran Filipovic and Gavin Hunt slam referees

Referees in the spotlight already

Posted: 2010-08-30 09:35

The Absa Premiership is just one week old, but already the referees are coming in for some serious stick from coaches.

After SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt complained about the way Lwandile Mfiki handled their game against Bidvest Wits, Golden Arrows’ Zoran Filipovic also expressed his unhappiness about the men in the middle.

Hunt claimed that Mfiki swore at his players and also pointed out a number of decisions that he feels should not have gone their way in the 3-0 defeat, including the sending off for dissent of Brent Carelse.

“We have had two weeks of difficult decisions,” he said, also referring to his team’s loss in the MTN8.

Filipovic was also scathing after Arrows’ 2-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, saying: “Sometimes I fail to understand the referees. Kaizer Chiefs did not need his help; they are a good team and were already leading 1-0.

“I don’t know why he gave them that penalty. The match was going well and there was nothing wrong – no rough tackles – and suddenly he just gave them the penalty. What for?

That penalty was converted by Siphiwe Tshabalala to give Amakhosi a 2-0 lead.

Welcome to SA...booby will do anything to win his games, he bribers defenders to boycott training, so tht he can have it easy when they play against arrows, then pay the ref...lol..the ref saw if he daznt have a hand in chips win, thn he will not get paid...

Undisputed Reigning Champ Mopheme (( All Trophies )): 2010-08-30 09:54

That was a totally unnecessary penalty given by the ref..!!! As for Hunt he is mad his player said '**** off" to the referee. I could see from the Tv replays.

mopedi+thwii: 2010-08-30 10:06

the law shud take its course & the culprits shud be prosecuted......even if we need 2 call the hawks......some owners are playing dirty...

Cantona: 2010-08-30 10:15

But it was a penalty, whats he complaining about..?

thivhu....: 2010-08-30 10:20

I think Hunt and his players are not telling the truth. The refrees use that communication thing, so everything that the refree say all the officials can hear that. However, refrees are also human beings, they make mistakes, its just unfortunate when it goes against you.
We are previllaged to have a slow motion on TV but refrees dont have such previllage, they have to make decision at the spot.

To the EDITOR (Patrick Zakalala), we know you are doing your job, but this kind of article is unnecessary. Are you sure of your facts if the refrees you are refering to are guilty? Please lets build SA soccer not destroying it. People like David Kekana must be elliminated in our soccer...his comments on Saturday night were right but he must work on his temper.

I am not saying this because I am Khosi but because I love soccer.

Kaizer Chiefs did not need his help; they are a good team and were already leading 1-0.

They always get help from referees, I don't know bout being a good team. Remember what happened on the Rothmans cup final just to mension a few, ppl will be claiming they are good while they fixing games and winning on penalty shoot-outs eish mara.

mr zoran fillipovic must just be honest he wants a job at nuterena as under 15 coach...............

Hhe e! You definately are saying this because you are not on the receiving end of the stick, had Arrows been the one given a dubious penalty.....we'd be having 200 comments on why refferies need jerking up right now!

Look Thivhu, it's been going on longer than you've had amashishi! Tl! tl! and it seems it'll continue until they are grey and eventually fall off! mh! mh! Yoh! Iyarobha le club!

Mthizozo: 2010-08-30 10:45

Niyakwabuyile King nale mbudede yenu. I'm sure if dat ref didn't make a mistake and others do on other matches ngekuthe cwaka ngoku. If da ref's decisions are against chiefs, all you do is laugh laugh laugh but when it favors chiefs ngu nywe nywe nywe! I for 1 was not happy with dat decision becoz it made people to think otherwise (that maybe arrows were gona come back though it was clear dat arrows was out of that game)...one team has just qualified because of a dubius corner kick but no one has said anything about that

Pierre: 2010-08-30 10:50

People lets stop being so insane, if Chiefs always need a referee to to win games, they would have been champions of PSL every season. Who can forget the legitimate goals for Wits and Celtic disallowed against Sundowns by referees last season. referees are human beings, they make mistakes everywhere. On Saturday night, i watched a La Liga match between Levante and Sevilla and the referee gave Sevilla a questionable penalty after a Levante player tackled a Sevilla player outside the penalty area and the player fall inside the penalty area. The referee was behind the incident like the Chiefs incident and we viewers and match commentators had the benefit of TVs replays and the referees don't have this opportunity. About the Romans Cup, Kleva if you know football you will understand that if you score a goal after the referee have blown for offside it won't count. Your stupid player Masilela delibarately kicked the ball after the referee has blown for offside and it was a fair game won by Chiefs.

Must confess did not see the Cheats/Arrows game but any South African who is sober would not be suprised to hear that these cheats were awarded a penalty in their first game. Infact its a un-heard of that Cheats can go three concecutive games without a penalt awarded to them but will go the season without conceading one. How lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hence I said, refrees are human beings. If you have the information about chiefs bribing officials, you know where you can bring that information. But if you are just assuming, you are like an empty drum.

Chibuku Pie-rats qualify for MTN8 with a corner kicked next to 18 area line, can we say they bribed the Ref? He did not see that. Now you talk too much about it when it is Chiefs...I see heart attacks this season.

Pierra:

The truth is that Masilela was deep inside when the 'hired' referre blew for offside.Chimps are just pathetic.....every season they are by far the most benefitors of the referee's bad decisions but still wont win the league. U have referred to two legitimate goals against Downs.....with Chiefs u can write a book. Looks like the Mbombela money has now dried-up.

leponapona: 2010-08-30 11:38

for how long will we witnessing this kind of robbery, the sad thing is that there is nothing we can do about it. this cheats saga is a talking point but dont be suprised if Silvesto Ndaba doesnt even say a word about it tonight on soccerzone.

Pierre: 2010-08-30 11:46

kamashobane, please can you engage me based on facts rather than your own imagination. Thivhu made it clear to all stupid Sundowns and Pirates supporters that if you have evidence of what you keep saying report it to PSL, SAFA and the police. You cannot do that because you know that there is no such a thing. Chiefs is a big brand and i don't think Nike, Vodacom, Standard Bank, Hollard and Nissan can associate themselves with cheats. These are big companies not spaza shops. It shows that kamashobane you are a very distressed young man that is why you won't talk about the incident which involved your team against Celtic and Wits. These two teams had legitimate goals disallowed against Sundowns last season. Did Motsepe buy a referee? The answer is "No", referees made mistakes.

Pierre: 2010-08-30 12:04

swetys Chiefs never played Amazulu in the Ohlssons Cup Final, the only finals they played Amazulu in the eighties and nighties is the 1987 Mainstay Cup which Chiefs won 1-0 through a Marks Maponyane goal. Amazulu missed a golden opportunity to level the score in that game through Archie Julaka Hadebe with William Shongwe beaten he shoot wide. 1987 is the year that Chiefs walloped Sundowns 7-0 in the two leg Ohlssons semi final, first leg was in Durban when Chippa Molated put 3 goals past Mark Anderson and the forth one came from Trevor Mthimkhulu and at Ellis Park for the second leg it was Mthimkhulu's show he netted two and Chippa one. Back to Chiefs and Amazulu, their second final was in the inaugural Coca Cola Cup in the early 90s when Amazulu beat Chiefs 3-1 after extra time. Chiefs goal was scored by Johannes Phadime. NSL or NPSL did not have a cup called Fruitree, it was Pirates sponsor in the early 80s before Chibuku Beer. Sweysts it shows that you are still a boy and the favours that you claim Chiefs got from referees never happened. Chiefs have good players in the 80 and 90's and even now. the different is that you were not born yet in the 80s and the early part of the 90s.

Tell me more about CHIBUKU BEER PIRATES FC.hehehehe
I think of that time when Chibuku Pirates won a game, they give Chibuku Beer for free to Chibuku Pirates fans. And that thing is affecting them today. You must read the comments from Tivani, he is always drunk, drink or not.

Sometimes I fail to understand the referees. Kaizer Chiefs did not need his help; they are a good team and were already leading 1-0.

they are going to win everything this way, KC is the only team in the PSL that knows how to look after refrees!

Summerrain!: 2010-08-30 13:09

Wena Pierre & your long essays the time the xpects were doing postmoterm of that Rothmans cup final you were either still celebrating or just plain drunk, cause it was confirmed that Masilela was onside. So ukhuluma ngani? You know very well that majority of referees are chiefs supporters, the likes of Herman Nkuna, Trevor Christian, Ian McCloud, Ace ngcobo. For now those are the names that comes up but the list is long like your essays!!

Vuvu: 2010-08-30 13:12

People i see you are all getting out of point, truth of the matter is that the referee was pathetic to say the least, when the incident happened he was far away and yet he could'nt even consult his assistant,so what is the purpose of referee's assistants.

Another troubling factor is why were the match officials not weearing any of those earpieces whilst on the other games(e.g Swallows vs Sundowns) they were using such technology?Lets hear from "El Proffessor" tonight on TV and its about time stern action is taken against such referee's.This is killing our football.

Pierre and Thivhu, you are just defending injustice in our game. KwaMashobane is correct that only one team continued and continues to benefit from these referees. As for reporting the matter, i think i was not going to do it even if i were to be asked by the president. You know why? Refer to Ace Ncobo's statement when he was saying the reports are gathering dust and nothing is being done to implement its findings...so what's the use reporting it? We are now sending a clear message to you all CHEATS to stop bragging about trophies you acquired illegal.

You are a team of cheats so i'd support a team that whether 10 years or it doesn't matter how long as long as we don't buy referees. It's a student that is cheating during exam, are going to be proud of the end products, i.e. Yourself when you working and you fail to put what you claimed you learned into practice? I don't think so...anyway whoever condones what CHEATS are continuing to do to dumpen our soccer with this cheating trend are clearly prooducts of cheating at school, if of course they do know the direction of the school gate.

I crocodile for now!

so we all agree that, Chiefs, with the amount of success their suporters say they have achieved, it was done so with a little help! and this season seems it's going to be worse, in their history as a team they have never used this desperate major on their first game, 2010/11 season, they were given the so called controversial penalty, we're trouble!

Bobby : 2010-08-30 18:21

Actually king y cant u just keep quiet u dont know what u r talkin abt. If ur team fail 2 win stop bein inconcertive abt ada teams. Just concerntrtate on ur team. I think u r jealous bcz chiefs hd won more trophies than any ada team. En it will take a lifetym 4 ada teams to achieve that.
