Jimmy Tau – No one can match Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 20 August 2010 Time: 08:00

Kaizer Chiefs captain Jimmy Tau says Bloemfontein Celtic or any other team for that matter can't match Amakhosi in numbers.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's MTN8 quarter-final clash against Siwelele at the Rand stadium Tau quickly set the record straight when it was put to him that Celtic's travelling loyal fans might match Chiefs in terms of supporters at the stadium and that could mean Chiefs don't enjoy the home ground advantage.   "It is a challenge to show that if you are a leading brand other teams might tend to follow but it takes a lot of hard work to get to that stage. If they can do it I will credit them for that, but maybe in Free State, I don't think they can get as much here. In any way I don't think there is any team that can match us anywhere," Tau boasts.   Amakhosi have an estimated 16 million fans across Southern Africa; here in South Africa and in countries such as Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. While this is an unofficial statistic it has, however, been evident in many PSL matches that Chiefs enjoy far greater support across the country, while Orlando Pirates have an estimated 14 million fans across the regions mentioned above. However, no survey has ever been officially conducted to ascertain the support each team enjoys.   Meanwhile, Tau says the MTN8 is an "important" competition for the team. "It is a very important competition for us and we see it as a priority in terms of what we want to achieve this season and obviously the League title too, but now we are focusing on Saturday's game and see what can happen," he says.   "We still have to show what we are capable of by continuing where we left off in the Telkom Charity Cup and contributing towards the Kaizer Chiefs legacy," Tau adds.   HAVE YOUR SAY: Do you think having the most supporters at the stadium is an advantage for a team?

My captain I could not agree with you more. There is only 1 team in psl is Kaiser Chiefs and the rest. The rest cannot match us in numbers, administration and professionalism. I am so surprise that kickoff did not run the biggest story in SA football history. The psl trendsetters have signed a 2 years deal with Rand stadium and they will be the 1st psl team to sell season tickets.
