With the kick off date for the new Ghana season now certain, we can look forward to another exciting season where many big names will be looking to remind us all how good they are.
All sixteen clubs have completed their signings for the first phase of the transfer window and from the certified lists made available by the Ghana Football Association; there will be some intriguing names.
Hearts of Oak have Sammy Adjei in place. Now Liberty Professionals have signed on another former Black Stars goalkeeper Osei Boateng from New Edubiase. Liberty will thus be the home of the old and the new of Ghanaian goalkeeping with Daniel Agyei also available for the coming season.
Agyei was one of only three home based players in the Ghana side that played at the 2010 world cup in South Africa and will be looking to make a major case for the number one jersey of Black Stars by playing well for the Dansoman based club.
Agyei’s team mate at the world cup Lee Addy also looks set to feature for Bechem Chelsea. It will make him the only playing member of the 2010 Black Stars team to take part in the domestic league.
Gladson Awako’s re-capture by Heart of Lions has made little headlines but it could prove one of the signings of the season. The midfielder was phenomenal for Ghana enroute to African Under-20 success in Rwanda last year and even though he played just a bit-part role in their Under-20 World Cup triumph remains a quality player. He is back at Lions after failing to make his mark in Spain and knows he will be back in the reckoning for a place in the national Olympic team.
Another player keen to re-establish his reputation is Bernard Don Bortey who for years has thrilled us with his undoubted football skills and dumbfounded us with his inconsistency and indiscipline off it.
Bortey says now that he is a changed man and will be looking to prove that at Aduana Stars.
Tudu Mighty Jets registered the most players with a staggering 67 on their books for coach Emmanuel Afranie to pick from.
The Board Chairman Alhaji Braimah says the huge number of registered players is simply because they want to give as many youngsters as possible the chance to do well on the big stage.
