Aduana Stars are challenging Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s claims that they have signed on highly rated right winger Ekow Benson for the coming season.
Benson was listed as one of Kotoko’s new signings ahead of the 2010-2011 season but the reigning Ghana league champions are challenging the registration and insist Benson had in principle become their player when they paid him part of a commitment fee.
“We had an agreement with the player and paid him a certain amount of money but things went a bit slow around the period of the world cup. Now we read the list of registered players for the coming league season and Ekow Benson is one of them for Kotoko”, club official Kofi Manu said. “We have alerted the authorities about our objection and hope this can be deal with.
Manu insist Aduana have evidence to prove money exchanged hands between the former Tema Youth midfield and the club but Kotoko Communications Director Jarvis Pepra says the player denies it.
“We have spoken to Benson and he says he did not take anything from Aduana. We will all have to wait and see the outcome when it goes through the processes.”
