Kamwendo quits Flames

Posted: 2010-08-16 10:19

Josephy Kamwendo has quit Malawi, the Flames, accusing coach Kinnah Phiri of unfair criticism after an alleged uninspiring performance in Wednesday's 1-1 draw against Botswana.

"I am very disappointed with what the coach told the press about me. I have quit the national team and I will now focus on my new club Vasco da Gama, but I will always be behind my country," Kamwendo told The Nation newspaper after Kinnah had accused the Orlando Pirates player of cheating on his fitness levels.

"I felt the coach comments were unfair because I do not understand how a player can cheat on fitness. Wasn't it him who told you guys that he was happy with the fitness levels of the foreign based players prior to the match?"

But Kinnah dismissed Kamwendo claims that he as quit due to the fitness remarks, insisting "Joseph announced that he was quitting from the national team to concentrate on his new club soon after the Botswana game and at that time I had not given the interview on his fitness."

Poor poor attitude ... I am sure the coach is happy he quit. Everyone at some stage of their life get criticized, but that should be motivation to do better, not quit.
