Samson Siasia worried by blunt strike force

Siasia worried by blunt strike force

Posted: 2010-08-15 09:26

Heartland coach Samson Siasia goes into Sunday's CAF Champions League showdown against Ismaily with concerns about his misfiring strike force.

Last year's finalists played out a 1-1 draw against Al Ahly in their opening game, and then lost to JS Kabylie in their second.

On both occasions, they were guilty of creating, then passing up some choice opportunities in front of goal, and Siasia has been left to rue their lack of a cutting edge.

"The biggest problem we have had is finishing," he told. "We create a lot of chances, and then we fail to take it.

"We have spent time working on it and we hope they can do better in Algeria because we need to win. We have no choice. But if you don’t score goals, you can’t win games."

To get goals, Heartland have added strikers Chibuzor Ozurumba, Emma Nwachi and Ghanaian Isaac Oduro.

Siasia, who is expected to be named Nigeria coach in the coming days, is under no illusions as to what awaits Heartland in Algeria.

"They will be desperate to win because they are playing at home and they have lost their two games.

"But we also need to win to put ourselves back in contention and we expect a very difficult game on Sunday."

Group leaders JSK are home to Al Ahly, but the tie has already been marred by Egypt/Algeria fan violence, with the Egyptian team's bus met by a hail of stones in Algeria.

At least one player is reported to have been injured in the incident.

Time to improve ur CV Siasia. We'd see by the end of the day.

lurdmanny : 2010-08-15 12:07

@ikkalu promo has not said anything bad, why must we always look for means to insult people.
and here is my argument if you cannt perform the miracle expected of you, why do you have to take the job, he bought the players or not is not an excuse so far am concern he sees himself capable thats the reason why he did take the job, i can ask you the reason why martin oneil of astonvilla retire with just 7 days to the beginning of new campaign if siasia go ahead and win the trophy, he wont say he did not buy those players, let us be fair with whatever we say as i wish him all the best luck with his team.

Niceguy: 2010-08-15 12:09

@IKKalu tell them my brother, all the best of luck Siasia and Heartland fc

lurdmanny : 2010-08-15 12:13

@ikkalu if you know anything about coaching yourself, a coach should know if he can sign a player or not before taking up any challenge. e.g mourinho knew he will buy players at madrid so he did accept the offer martin oniel knew he wont be able to buy players he left.

steveenoch: 2010-08-15 13:50

When are we suppose to learn and move forward. Football is not just as easy as we think. Let us just be united and give this gentle man Siasia all the neccessary supports. He is the best for now among all our indigenous coaches. He has some attributes of the special one (Jose Mounrinho) which I think is a plus for Nigeria football. My piece of advice is that he should never consider his pocket first but put all Nigerians first. The moment this is done, he will take us to where we have been longing to be. All the best Siasia and my fellow

Mike .: 2010-08-15 15:00

@lurdmanny, u self no nothing about coaching. If sia1 no take the job una go say him too proud. Sia1 meet those players there and him no buy any. U for give sia1 udoji utd, ranchers bees players or even pregnant woman like Yakubu make him use win caf champions league.Sia1 don complain about him players so him dey write.Una go just come here de disgrace una self. Ikkalu u dey 100% correct with ur comment.I wish sia1 best of luck

Eneramo on Target today for Esperance! It is a pity Lagerback dropped him for a lack-lustre Yakubu and non-playing Ideye. I expect Siasia to call him up as he appears to be our best striker for now.

I think kickoffnigeria can learn from this. What a complete report of the Federation cup final by mtnfootball.com (including goal scorers, time goal was scored, squad list). If kickoff can get more hands, with the type of following in this site, gradually Nigerians will start showing interest in our league.

Kaduna United clinched this year's Federation Cup Sunday after they defeated Enyimba 3-2 on penalties after both teams played out a 3-3 stalemate in regulation time.

Substitute goalkeeper Chinedu Agwu was the cup final hero at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano as he saved two of the kicks during the penalty shootout.

Kaduna two-goal star Bola Bello lost his penalty, while Ofem Inah, Magnus Iwuoha and Daddy Bazuaye lost theirs for Enyimba.

Enyimba, who have won the cup competition last year as well as in 2005, were thus denied the chance to clinch a treble after they have already won the league as well as the pre-season tournament, the Super Four.

This was Kaduna United's first major piece of silverware. They will now represent Nigeria in next year's CAF Confederation Cup, along with Sunshine Stars of Akure, who placed third in the Nigeria Premier League.

Sunday's final was a heavily policed with over 1,500 policemen on duty at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano following Enyimba's concerns over their safety after an incident during the recent Super Four tournament, where Kano Pillars protested their 2-1 loss to the 'People's Elephant'.

Kaduna controlled the game with their attractive passing game, while Enyimba employed their maturity and experience to curtail the forays of their more youthful foes.

Kaduna United took the lead in the 28th minute from a spot kick converted by Bola Bello after goalkeeper John Lawrence was adjudged to have brought down a goal-bound Kaduna striker.

They increased their advantage seven minutes later courtesy of Siman Yusuf, before Enyimba pulled a goal back in the 37th minute from the penalty spot after Kaduna goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius fouled an Enyimba striker. Magnus Iwuoha netted the spot kick.

Former Dolphins ace Bello regained Kaduna's two-goal advantage on the 40th minute through a solo goal. His goal celebration, which saw him pill off his jersey, earned him the only booking of the first half.

Defender Valentine Nwabili smashed home a 45-yard rocket to reduce Enyimba's deficit on the dot of half time.

The revived league champions then restored parity in the 52nd minute when Atanda Sakibu superbly finished off a good combination play at the edge of the box for Enyimba's third goal.

Ten-man Rangers won the third-place match 2-1 at the expense of Sunshine Stars in a balanced game.

Brendan Ogbu put the Flying Antelopes ahead after 14 minutes before Sunshine drew level 10 minutes later through Dele Olorundare.

Rangers made sure of victory when substitute Peter Obiorah netted the winner in the 71st minute.

Rangers forward Ejike Uzoenyi was sent off in the 75th minute.

@ mike i have never said anything bad as am also in support of siasia, what am saying is this, siasia should not do anything that will rubish is profile like what happen i think last year when the fools in the glass house where celebrating his loss, and that is why i made a good example in martin oniel the former astonvilla coach he retired when he discover he wont be able to buy players, is there anything i have said wrong??

Agbe: 2010-08-15 21:31

Guys, di anyone of you saw the story about Amodu saying, the downfall of eagle in south Africa was down to him, in his word,God will not fold his hand and let his son(Amodu) suffer. they`ve now taking the story offline maybe they realise it was a PR disaster.

Agbe: 2010-08-15 22:27

Look at that goalkeeper for God-sake, he came out and ran under the ball. It must be very difficult to coach and motivate players who knows if anything happen to them, they are on their own, terrible salary, terrible welfare, (insurance) get injured and you are on your own.

heartland lost by a lone goal

Prof.: 2010-08-15 23:29

Siasia loses again! Can he successfully handle the Super Eagles???!

Agbe: 2010-08-15 23:53

@IKKALU, you right our boys lack technique, when it come to the telling pass, they can’t do it, not brave enough to do it and even they try to pass the ball forward it’s just kick and hope, shooting and crossing is another thing o, did you see the way they will just carry there leg backward like is an axe. How can you start to teach an old player how to pass the ball, cross the ball and kick the ball, these are some of the reason why our boys don’t play for big clubs anymore like before, poor technique, if it’s not in your blood, DNA through coaching from when you were little, how can you produce it when you are under pressure?

Eric: 2010-08-16 00:01

@Prof, yes he can !!

Agbe: 2010-08-16 00:04

@Prof, don’t forget this team as lost most of its better players, Uche Agba, Osanga, Stanley Okoro to name a few that I know, they are the shadow of their old self, if you can’t pay them well or get them good welfare package, they will leave for greener pasture. This is nothing to do with Siasia.

Leonard: 2010-08-16 00:28

@prof it's such a shame, you challenge Siasia's capability based on this game? No wonder our dear country seizes to go forward!!!!!

objective bibby: 2010-08-16 03:01

Gentlemen,
i think we should not be blindfolded with sheer patriotism or ethnocentrism. Why should Prof shut up or be insulted bcos of a simple, harmless question? Trust, if Maurice Cooreman had taken charge of Heartland @ same time and lost 2 and drew 1 out of 3, many forumites will call him names and asked that he be replaced with a local coach, just simply bcos of the skin colour.
I will admonish that we lower our high expectations of this man (Sia1) and be very realistic. I recommend to all of us to read latest blog of Mumini Alao on complete sports' site.
Best of luck to Siasia, SE and Naija.

Segun: 2010-08-16 07:16

I think the problem with Heartland is almost becoming a national problem now. When our teams play, even the Super Eagles, you hardly know how good the opposing goalkeeper is. For the whole 90 minutes of football, Heartland could not create good chances to test the opposing goalkeeper. This also happened to the Super Eagles during the world cup. It seems our players lack some fundamental techniques in their play. The play in the final third of the pitch is always disappointing. I hope this is rectified fast as scoring goals is what makes football interesting.

Mike .: 2010-08-16 09:54

@lurdmannyi agree wit u for ur 2nd comment. Thats why Sia1 nid gud contract package so if him no perform we go blame am not the nff. If sia1 get lesser package we go forget say na small change him de rcv. Sia1 don try& i blv if them give am free hand him go succeed.

steveenoch: 2010-08-16 11:09

Guys, I have gone thru all your comments, they are very commending, but let us be more objective. I still believe Siasia can give us the long awaited result in the super eagles. Remember in my last comments I said "if he did not consider his pocket first, we will laugh together". Sentiments should be totally eradicated if he wants to succeed. All the best Siasia and my fellow Nigerians.

tituyu: 2010-08-16 14:25

Guys you see the bias against the white man i am talking about!!. Now siasia and lagerback, what's the difference. Nothing, they both took a team they could not change, even when they were aware of the time constraints and in my opinion have performed woefully. But no siasia is just helping heartland while legerback is a failure!!!. why because one has black skin and the other is white!..Am i a siasia hater?, the answer in NO. am i lagerback lover?, NO. But i think we have not been fair on our assessment of lagerback. Lagerback took a team, barely two weeks to the world cup, and what did we expect from him? the same thing has happend to siasia with heartland. And please cut the crap of him not being the ones that bought the players, did he not put all that into consideration before he took the job?..So for the sake of our national team stop overrating siasia because if he fails, he would pocket his money and walk away. the failure would not be his, but our national teams..and about siasia's exorbitant wages, i can only shake my head. Big ups to kolawole and the bill for ur comments devoid of eccentric and overzealous patriotism....

steveenoch: 2010-08-17 13:31

Nice one Tituyu but remember Siasia is a Nigerian, He would hardly rejects such an offer because they believe in him. Remember the last olympics, he took the responsibility upon himself and he said hardly will a number of that squad graduate to super eagles. This statement shows he knows what he is doing and never bias over critical issues. But the lagarback's promise Nigerians semi final ticket. If we assemble this same Eagles with same coach for the same world cup in the same group with Collina as the referee for all our matches, we will still not go beyound the group stage. Except, we discover what is wrong, we'll be having the same result. Siasia should have been the coach even when the NFF gone for AMODU. Things would have been better by now cos he would have made use of the under 23 team which you and I know they are very determined and more focused.Mournrinho couldn't have taken Super Eagles job and promised us Semi final. In madrid today, he told the fans not to expect anything this season but by next season they should expect a lots. This is a wise saying. I will simply put that Lagarback's is a POLITICAL COACH.
