Orlando Pirates winger Phenyo Mongala is relishing the prospect of squaring up against his former Bucs' teammate, Josephy Kamwendo when visiting Botswana play Malawi in an Africa Cup of Nations tie today.
Mongala, scorer of Zebras' solitary goal against Chad last month, is eagerly waiting to come up against the Flames' Kamwendo, who has been loaned to Vasco da Gama.
The Zebras face Malawi in their third Group K qualifier. They opened their campaign with identical 1-0 wins over Tunisia and Chad.
Zebras' winger Pontsho Moloi, formerly with Bay United, reckons an exciting midfield duel is on the cards.
"It should be interesting - they were teammates until recently and they know each other very well. Whoever gets it right on the day, will win the battle," Moloi told Mmegi Sport.
"I know in such instances, there is always the element of wanting to prove oneself. It is only natural, but I guess they will bring the best out of each other."
Shakira, as Kamwendo is affectionately known, is likely to play a crucial role for the Flames and Mzambiya cannot wait to face him.
"I must say it is very interesting that I could face Shakira. It will make for a very interesting match," he said.
The diminutive Pirates' winger admits the Flames will be difficult opponents, but he hopes for a third straight win in the qualifiers.
"Malawi has a good team and I know what Shakira and his (national) team are capable of on their day, but hopefully we can continue with our winning form and beat Malawi," he said.
Kamwendo's main worry could be the fact that he has not been training due to an injury he picked up when Malawi played Togo. He, however, confirmed that he will be part of the Flames squad today.
Mzambiya's new teammate at the Buccaneers, Chikuepo Msowoya is likely to be line-up against the Zebras. Msowoya missed the Flames' 1-1 draw against Togo last month.
