The Zambian international started only two matches in the League and came off the bench seven times.
Subsequently, Katongo, the younger brother of former Jomo Cosmos striker Christopher, has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Tshwane club. However, he didn’t have to wait long to find a new club.
The 26-year-old has moved to Libya, where he has penned a two-year deal with Al Ittihad. News from his native country claims the deal is worth a staggering US$500,000 (R3 600 000) over the course of the two years. Al Ittihad is the Libyan club that became the first club from that country to qualify for the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League in 2007.
Katongo had been in Libya for two weeks before signing the deal. "I signed the contract on Sunday and I can officially confirm that I have joined Al Itihad," he tells Zambianfootball.net.
"It is a good move and I love it. I want to work hard so that I can fit in their League. The kind of football played here (Libya) is different and more competitive, so I will try to work hard to adapt to their style of play," he said.
