Troughton moves to Nathi Lions

First Division side Nathi Lions have appointed Sammy Troughton as their new coach for the new season in which they are merely looking to survive after losing a dozen players from the squad.

Troughton takes over from Professor Ngubane who has since left to join Thanda Royal Zulu where he has been followed by most of the players that did duty at Nathi last season.

Ironically Troughton coached Thanda last season.

Lions' owner, Nathi Maphumulo tells KickOff.com that Troughton is the man that he has tasked with taking charge of the team for the upcoming season.

"Sammy is our new coach but we are still looking to see who else will work with him in that technical department," says Maphumulo.

Troughton was earlier reported to have joined Carara Kicks but he never arrived in the Free State and has instead now headed for Durban.

Of the 14 players whose contracts expired at the end of last season only Chris Makhoba and Senzo Mkhwananzi have returned with most of those who have left heading to Thanda.

"You have to understand that because of financial limitations we have been forced to recruit young players from the lower divisions who are hungry to succeed.

"But I am glad that Makhoba and Mkhwananzi have returned as these two are key players that we desperately need. The new regulations state that we must have five Under-23 players and that will also suit us well seeing that we will have a young team," adds Maphumulo.
