Platinum Stars have confirmed Owen Da Gama as their new head coach on a two-year contract confirming what KickOff.com said on Friday.
Da Gama replaces Steve Komphela, who had a torrid run at the helm of the North West based side. Komphela guided 'Dinaledi' to a 14th place finish on the log and was constantly accused of "poor management" of his players at the team, with some staying away from training in protest.
Da Gama left Bloemfontein Celtic under a cloud last week after he allegedly had a run-in with management. Now 'Rubber Doll' has returned to the club he guided for seven years before taking charge of Orlando Pirates, where he had a short stint.
"I am delighted to be returning to Platinum Stars, a club that is very close to my heart after so many years spent here previously. I am returning to a very different club though, one that has moved base to Rustenburg and into world-class facilities of the Bafokeng Sports Campus. These are exciting times for this ambitious team and the chance to be part of this bright new future was too good for me to turn down," he says.
The club is equally ecstatic. "Owen is an outstanding coach who brings a wealth of experience to the club. We are delighted he has decided to join us at a time when we are looking to take the brand forward into a new era. We have the utmost confidence in Owen and those players who remain at the club from his first spell in charge will tell you he has exceptional qualities as a coach," says Jason Raine, the club's general manager.
