Fans to pay more this season

Posted: 2010-07-30 07:37

Higher entrance prices for PSL games this season and a better deal for players. These are two of the issues decided on at the Board of Governors meeting in Sandton yesterday.

"Supporters have been paying R20 to attend our games for the past eight years. Costs have increased in that period," PSL chairman Irvin Khoza says in a Sapa report carried by the Daily Dispatch.

"For example it costs a club R500 000 just to stage a PSL match. We have no option but to increase our prices. It is always unfortunate when one has to make increases but there is no way we can continue to charge R20 for 90 minutes of high-quality entertainment any longer."

Although Khoza could not give a figure it is likely that fans will have to pay R40 to attend PSL matches this season.

The PSL are charging between R50 and R100 for next Saturday's Telkom Charity Cup.

"We have already sold 56000 tickets for the event even before we know which four PSL clubs will be competing," said Khoza.

"The clubs have agreed to look after players' rights," said Khoza. "It is an important and a big step forward for soccer in our country."

Details of these are expected to be revealed by the Union shortly.

The controversial issue surrounding the South African Football Association and the disputed annual general meeting held last September, was yesterday again put on hold. Safa implemented new changes to their constitution in June.

"We cannot comment until Safa furnish us with details and we get clarity," said Khoza.

Bring it on!!! People cant wait to watch OP, espicially to see the special one Teko Modise proving his critics wrong surrounded by a GALAXI OF STARS. Bafana Bafana is too slow for Teko, he is used to high and fast tempored games. not boMatatazela Tshabalala and BoPhuza face Mphela, naboTrekere Sibaya and good for nothing Pienaaaar Nx, as well as Spider Skiki Khune. Its fact that Teko contributed to Gaxa perfomance at 2010WC, He never exposed him and when on attack he passed him on time and still came back to defend with him. Teko game a solid perfomance at the 2010WC. Motsipe Patrice has been seen often with Itumeleng Khune(Can Khune refuse R300,000 PM compared to the peanuts he eanrs at Developing Club Kwenza Chiefs. heheheheheh watch the news.by King

Soccer Critic ( Tivani ): 2010-07-30 08:03

“””“Killing his confidence””””

Firstly the devil started by killing his confidence. They keep reminding Teko about the past bad experiences. They told him you Off-form. This was another strategy for the devil to destroy someone. How can you perform at your best, if you are keeping reminded about bad things? They used all the effort to pressurise Teko, so to further their own ambitions. Some, I remember, they even went to the stadium to booing Teko. The devil knew if Teko get booed, it’s going destroy his confidence. Comparing him with other players was another strategy to kill Teko’s confidence. There was a lot of comparison; it even extended to bench warmers, defender & goalkeepers such as Itu Khune. The aim was to discourage him at all cost. Some they even ask him “if u r the best, why are you not playing overseas? This was also another strategy to take his confidence down at any price. It did not ends there, but shifting the blame.

"""""Playing the wrong person"""""""

whenever Bafana Bafana loose is Teko Modise, but when they win the devil find other players to praise. this has been proven many times. Whichever misteakes done By the defender's "Mbazo" or Goalkeepers " Khune", Teko must explain after the match. He should stand before the nation and tell why that ball past khune, s if he is the Safa president. Teko is always the victim of Bafana bafana loose. The devil is busy playing the innocent. it did not end there, but his blood.

Whenever Bafana Bafana

“””“They want to see nothing but His blood””””

It’s no longer about being “off-form”, but personal hatreds their have towards “the General”. It seems like Kaizer Chiefs fans are not done with Teko. They want to see his blood. After the world Cup I thought their mission to destroy Teko in bafana bafana has been accomplished. Now they have proved me wrong. The witches are now chasing him out in Pirates. It's not over until they see Teko's blood. They want his blood now. They want him not to play in Pirates. These people they hate "the general". They want him to be dropped or to be put on transfer. Kaizer Chimps fans are hypocrites they don’t know where to draw the line. They don’t know how to differentiate between Bafana Bafana, Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates. Teko is a Pirates ACE. It won’t Change. And it will never change. We still love "the Navigator". We love him sow much. He feels at home when he is at Pirates, than in bafana bafana ba Kaiser Chiefs.

“””“Orlando Pirates Supporters to shoot Teko””””

The devil is busy giving us riffler’s, revolvers & AKA 47 so that we will shoot on the wrong direction, to kill Teko Modise. Surely this strategy it’s working, bcoz some of Pirates fans are angry at Teko. Some they say he must leave Pirates. Please, Pirates’ fans we should be very carefully. The devil is very intelligent. The devil is bringing confusion amongst Bucs supporters, so that will turn against Teko. The devil is using all the dirty tricks to bring confusion. These witchcrafts are making us to be angry at Teko, so that we will turn against him. Surely, them alone they wont succeed killing Teko, but they will only succeed if we believe what they saying. Let me give an example in the Bibble: Mr Snake realised that going straight to Adam, & to tell him to eat the fruit that God prohibited him, he won’t succeed. But Mr Snake uses his dirty tricks, I mean he uses Adam’s wife “Evah” to trap Adam. Mr Snake knows that if he influences Evah, then Evah influences Adam. So, please maBakaniya we must not turn against one of our own. This is the time we unite, so that we will defeat the devil. Do not fall into their temptation. Don’t fall into their trap. We must be very carefully because we are the ones who can kill or Build Teko. It’s on our hands to protect or to finish Teko. Let’s love him.

“”””“Ruining his legacy””””””

Teko is the best player we ever had, since the post Apartheid in SA. He has a legacy. So, Now that the devil has successfully destroyed Teko in Bafana Bafana, they want to ruin his “Legacy”. That’s why they keep telling us he is dead. They are trying to rubbishes everything which is done by Teko. For instance, before the world cup, the devil was using Steven Pienaar as a yard stick to rid of “the general” in Bafana Bafana. However, steve P, perform badly then they all turn against Teko & saying those two chances. He should have scored them . why piennar did not get them? They are undermining the work & achievement that Teko has accumulated within in short period of time. The devil doesn’t want to appreciate that Teko has worked lot to uplift country’s hope. Today, young players like Andile Jali, Sphiwe Tshabalala, Mabena & the likes will reap the fruints that Teko has fought for. Teko is the caterpillar who opens ways for young players.

tpaz: 2010-07-30 08:34

DONT BE FOOLED BY THE SWC2010...most of the people who attended the matches were foriegners and rich white south africans.

The majority of black, go to PSL and if you add the cost together they are too much

I suggest an increase to R25 , and R30 next season.

Are we now paying for the building of the stadiums?

Champ "Superbrand": 2010-07-30 08:45

Mmmmmm!!! I see empty staduims. Stadiums were empty when it was R20 and now, the increase is 100%. This will definately backfire. I hope it does not. I wish South Africans will stop just going to the staduim to watch Pirates or Chiefs. Lets attend the games people, then they will all be exciting.

Vuyani: 2010-07-30 08:51

I know it cost the amount mentioned to stage a PSL game. That is where the sponsors are coming from! Soccer is a poor man's game , you taking away that previledge and giving to the rich people.
Go ahead with increase but do not double the amount we've been paying. There a clubs with low support base and they will suffer more cause supporters will stay away from those boring games!

I agree with you , maybe they should start by increasing by R30 , some people may not be able to afford selling these tickets. Yes , we've recently hosted the prestigious tournamnet and with flying colors but R40 for poor South Africans, that's not ayoba.

Some of us R40 is nothing but if you noticed that we're still a developing country , we need to crawl 1st before we can stand, walk & run

The Mamelodi Sundowns right-back, who featured in all three of Bafana's World Cup matches, was hoping to leave Downs after the tournament to play in Europe.

But the hard-tackling defender appears to have hit a brick wall with the Sundowns management.

Gaxa's agent, Glyn Binkin, yesterday said the player has become frustrated.

"Sundowns are proving to be difficult," Binkin said.

"They say they will not stand in the player's way, but are refusing to put a price on his transfer. How can anyone buy or sell a player if there is no price to negotiate with?"

Binkin disclosed there were a number of leading European clubs interested in signing him, but if he could not get a selling price from Sundowns, it would be almost impossible to get him a club in Europe.

The other problem is there are plenty of free- agents (players who have completed their contracts and are free to sign with no transfer fee) involved and players with European passports looking for clubs, which makes placing a South African more difficult.

"My question is, are Sundowns serious about selling Gaxa?"

Yes it is a good call to increase the fees. South Africans got lot of money, everyone can afford R40 ticket. The people of this country are spoilt, if you can go to Sunnyside at Esselen Street you will find pubs full of young people drinking alcohol. So it is rubbish to say people live below poverty line so they can't afford a meagre R40 ticket while affording a case of Black Lable.

Back to the article. The PSL must remember that the fans at the WC are not the same fans at PSL matches. They must also remember that they competing with other recreational activities. PSL should have a strategy to bring fans to staduims before developing a strategy to increase prices. They can't rely on WC momentum alone.
