Zimbabwe's football federation has officially suspended its chief executive Henrietta Rushwaya on suspicion of fixing the Warriors' matches during a tour of Asia last year, the federation said on Thursday.
KickOff.com reported on Monday that Zifa had suspended Rushwaya after allegations that she and some members of the national team had conspired with Asian betting syndicated in the match-fixing allegations, but she has remained at her desk until papers were formally served on her today.
"The decision has been necessitated by alleged acts of mismanagement and the serious irregularities surrounding the national team's trip to Asia in December 2009," football federation president Cuthbert Dube said in a statement.
The federation launched an investigation into Zimbabwe's participation in a tournament held in Malaysia last year, during which they lost 6-0 to Syria and 3-0 to Thailand.
The Zimbabwean Football Association has threatened to come down hard on players who are ignoring summons to testify in the association's ongoing probe into match-fixing allegations.
Two Zimbabwean players signed by Mamelodi Sundowns this season, Method Mwanjali and Nyasha Mushekwi, who were on the tour were summoned by Zifa for questioning.
FIFA, world soccer's ruling body, said it had no comment to make on the matter.
