With Bafana Bafana set to play Ghana’s Black Stars in less than two weeks, Safa has still not named a team manager for the national team.
Safa’s presidential assistant Dennis Mumble, who replaced the former incumbent Sipho Nkumane for the duration of the World Cup is back at his desk and is on record as saying that he has resumed his normal duties.
According to a report in East London’s Daily Dispatch, Nkumane, who held the job since 2006, will appear before a Safa Disciplinary Committee on Monday and Tuesday of next week, to answer charges of displaying animosity towards Xolani Mtumtum (Bafana head of delegation before and during the World Cup tournament), inciting players against Mtumtum, Sedibe and other management officials, and, in so doing, creating divisions in the team.
Nkumane’s assistant Gugu Marawa, also resigned last week, claiming she could not work with new Bafana coach, Pitso Mosimane.
Initial reports were that former Wits University and Mamelodi Sundowns left back, Mike Ntombela, would take over the Bafana team manager position.
But the 51-year-old, who has just resigned from Adidas where he was the sportswear apparel company’s soccer manager, denies knowledge of this.
“I have heard about this and I don’t know where it came from because no one from Safa has ever approached me,” he tells the Dispatch, adding, “But I’m still looking out for a job.”
