Thami Sangweni off to Cyprus

Posted: 2010-07-27 12:04

After his superb form for AmaZulu last season, defender Thami Sangweni could be lost in South African football after being invited to Cyprus for trials.

Sangweni, who is a younger brother to Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga, flew to Cyprus at weekend to an undisclosed team where he hopes to secure a deal.

AmaZulu PRO Philani Mabaso confirms that the Empangeni born defender is in Cyprus.

"He has been given a one-week trial and if he impresses and Usuthu agree on an offer, we won’t stand in his way to realise his dream of playing overseas," says Mabaso.

I don't like the idea. The guy is still young and has not developed well. He is a good player but I was hoping that this will be his season to shine for Usuthu. The move over seas may be premature. Goodluck though.

You go boy, you's a star, f... what they say, bakhulumakuphela, Cyprus is no big deal, but far better than coming to Jozi and tie yourself up in some deal.

He's young and very good in a holding role, he held his own against Sundowns. Next we will here of him moving to German, Holland or perhaps England...

Still you?????? How old is Do Santos? How old was Messi when he moved to Barca???? How old was Rooney when he first played for England? We need to start challenging our players to aim high and hold their own at higher level, otherwise Africa will always undef perform because we do not have the caliber who can endure at a high level. They need to be integrated in proper structures when they are still young, otherwise they will for ever remain zinkomo
