Legal comfort for Bay players

There's more than a ray of hope for current and former Bay United players who are owed money by Umlilo.

This emerged this morning when KickOff.com spoke to the legal representatives of the closed corporation, Striving Mind Trading 522 who have bought the cash-strapped Port Elizabeth First Division team.

Alex Elliott, of attorneys Knowles, Hussain and Lindsay, said that while the deal has already been sanctioned by the PSL it is not yet sealed as there are a number of legal and financial issues to be resolved.

However, Elliot was confident that these would be settled by August 2.

Elliot said he was not at liberty to divulge the identity of members of the corporation at this stage, but added that the outstanding monies to players by the former Sipho Pityana owned-club were among the financial matters under discussion.

Elliot is well-versed in these matters having handled the South African Football Players Union's long-running battle against another First Division club, FC AK, in an effort to get compensation – in excess of R3-million - from the Azziz Kara owned outfit.

"As the League has stated, Bay United will be playing in PE but I cannot comment any further ... everything will be clarified by the latest on August 2," he said.

In the draft fixtures released last week, Umlilo will open their new season in an Eastern Cape derby, against East London's Blackburn Rovers who were promoted to the First Division Coastal Stream.

The match is penciled for Westbourne Oval on September 11.

Isn't this company owned by Danny Jordan's brother, the one who made millions of rands from the World Cup in the Nelson Mandela Metro??
