Mphela, Khumalo on Scots' radar

Posted: 2010-07-27 08:56

Unconfirmed reports from England this morning are that Glasgow Rangers are interested in signing the South African World Cup pair of Katlego Mphela and Bongani Khumalo.

Defender Khumalo and striker Mphela, who both scored against France at the finals, are rated at just over R15-million each.

It appears that Rangers are hoping the lure of Champions League football will give them the edge over interested Premiership clubs.

According to the report, initial talks have already taken place between Ibrox chief executive Martin Bain and representatives of Mphela and Khumalo.

Smith said: "We are seriously considering both these players. I believe they could fit in well for us. Contact has been made, but we'll need to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks."

The price tag is going to scare them away, i sanity will prevail to both SSU and Sundowns and drop the price by 5 million at least.

King99: 2010-07-27 09:14

Well both players deserve to ply their trade in a well organised and tough league, wish you all the best, afterall R15m is not lot of money for teams competing in the Champions league.

We're behind your move all the way boys.

gudluck boys our league is too poor 4 both of u especially mphela.defenders couldn't hold on u last season,so it will be useless 2 continue doing obvious perfomance u need challenge.

That can only be good for Bafana Bafana. Let 2 or 3 more players move as well so as to intensify the competitive stature of our national team. We cannot rely on our domestic league to feed the team instead, the league should export and give us mature players that will have mental strength as well. Talent alone has failed us in the past, let those leagues nurture them for our nation. Thumbs up to the duo, not forgeting Calvin Kadi. Mzantsi Afrika, ilizwe lamathuba, sinebhongo neqhayiya ngalo!

robby : 2010-07-27 09:33

i want Mphela 2 b involved in our league 4 the last tym in charity cup.i want him 2 torment those monkeys called defenders.is Thabang Rooi still at chiefs?hehehe!i'm not laughing but i foresee danger.Mphela will put rooibors talent at risk cum the 7th

Vusi: 2010-07-27 09:38

It would make a business sense to release those players for that amount and it would be a good carreer move for both of them.

Sweyts: 2010-07-27 09:39

Killer 'Ma-Eysh' Mphela and Khumalo will be big hits in Glascow should this move materialise, Champions league football is beckoning for them too for the duration of the contract because Celtics and Rangers rule the Scottish league.

Instead of going to say...Wigan or Borough where they'll be guaranteed to battle for survival week in week out, this move is best for both and will give them an opportunity to sharpen their skills before considering moving to England's bigger clubs in a season or two.

Best of luck bafethu,,,,,and ja, stay away from abo-Qatar tuu! Only tractors and cranes are suitable there! mh!

this is from Chimps fan(general):not from me :::: Now I understand why Pirates said "NO" to the offer for Teko,Players must stop rushing to play in Europe because within a season they just dissapeared,In the World Cup how many players we had plying their trades with overseas teams look Nomvete it had helped him to come back home and play our domestic soccer he started to be Bhele who was known before going abroad. Who said that European clubs play better soccer than us in Africa,we have to take out this mentality of thinking that something that is abroad is better than with what we have here in Africa. Now we need to show them that we do have our own Gods talent.Let us learn to be proud with what we are.Khoza and Motsepe did well by sanctioning this Europe teams by not giving them Gaxa and Modise respectively. Look Tso,Rhee,Siyabonga Nkosi,Carnell ,Fernandez,Stanton Fredericks to name a few they went abroad when they were in peak of their perfomance, after that they got rusty and they were loaned from one team to another. Not all players will succeed in Europe like Rhoo,Pienaar and Benny. Now is the time to have our own and be proud of who we are.

For kashego Maphela I forsee danger, the statement still stand "We are not a selling club". Never forget that Sunflop don't put a price on a player, you come with your 4 or 15 Millions and they say is too little and they call off the deal. Anyway goodluck both of you. I will pray for Sunflop management to accept the offer.

You know, our S.A. players killed themselves by their dismall performance in the world cup more so cause they didn't progress further than the group stages. Individualism was their downfall and if they collectively worked together for the good of the country then their goals would have been realized as well cause these overseas countries are smart when it comes to purchasing players and really speaking, who marketed themselves more? Ghana or S.A. players? The reality is obvious and now you tell me, are any of our players worth more than 5 million? I think not and it is a shame on the teams locally that turn down offers from the overseas clubs for our players cause they feel that they are too less. Don't get me wrong as I'm not saying that our S.A. teams should be exploited, but they need to be realistic when do deals and at the end of the day the players interest should come above everything else.

baba you are completely out, PSL is the poor of the poorest, what can you do with something that doesnt compete in the African Champs Lig, the reasons players exported fail , is that they dont play, but if they play weekly in though ligs good for them, and lastly it is the agents that destroy the boys by looking at the offer otherthan transferring a player to a team where he is going to play, during Confed same TEKO complained that he was intimidated by big stars , what do you say about that.

thivhu....: 2010-07-27 10:24

Reports claiming that the Bafana Bafana star is on the verge of signing a deal with Steaua worth R5-million are wide of the mark, according to his agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane, who revealed to Football365.co.za that "there is no Romania move for Shabba, he will not be going there."
He also added that contrary to reports, the Kaizer Chiefs ace is "not a free agent and is contracted to the (Soweto) club until 2012."
Tshabalala has received offers from England, Holland and France, with the latter option enticing the winger.
Wigan and Birmingham have already reportedly shown interest in the 25-year-old, but he does not want to be resigned to a bench role in the Premier League, much like Katlego Mphela.
'Shabba' has already revealed his desire to avoid an obscure destination, which could see him fall out of the pecking order in the national team.
Amakhosi are set to make an announcement early next week regarding Tshabalala's imminent departure, but one thing is for sure - the man who scored the opening goal at the 2010 World Cup has his heart set on testing himself abroad and it will be an injustice if he does not get the chance he deserves.

It can be confirmed that top French club Paris Saint Germain has increased their interest in Bafana Bafana midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala.

In fact, a source close to the player has revealed that Tshabalala's agent Jazzman Mahlakgane is currently in France to start talks with PSG, as the club is known.

Mahlakgane is expected to return on Sunday with a firm offer on the table for the player!

"PSG are willing to pay Tshabalala's club Kaizer Chiefs a R17 million transfer fee. It's half the money Chiefs originally wanted for the player, but with the European market currently under pressure, it's still a fortune so we'll see what happens," revealed our informant.

Chiefs' director of football, Bobby Motaung, alleged spoke to PSG while in France last week, but it's uncertain whether the offer will be good enough.

News of interest for the player from Romanian club Steaua Bucharest has been flatly denied my Mahlakgane.

Tshabalala caught the attention of the club after outstanding performances in the FIFA World Cup for Bafana Bafana, who shared a group with France. Soccer-Laduma will continue to keep tabs on the player's movements!

Italy for world cup preparetion, & end up by dropping them in the last minute. Lets focus on local players and stop worshiping overseas players.

There are good players who can fill their shoes or maybe do better than what they offered. In the past we let Phil Masinga & the late Sizwe to go & were replaced without any problems.Away with unhappy players for the sake of continuity.A va fambi va ya swi vona.

An Open Letter to Pirates Fans: "Be Afriad, Be Very Afraid"

Joh!!!! Kaizer Chiefs supporters seems like they are not done with Teko. I Thought they mission to destroy Teko in bafana bafana have been accomplished . But now they are also chasing him out ko Pirates. they want him not to play ko Pirates. They are selecting starting 11 for Pirates & deliberately ommiting "the general". Jah these people they hate "the general". they want him to be dropped or to be put on transfer ko Pirates as well. Kaizer Chimps fans are hypocrites they dont know where to draw the line. They dont know how to differetiate between Bafana Bafana, Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates. Teko is a Pirates ACE. it wont Change. Here ko Pirates we still love "the Navigator". we love him sow much. He feels at home ko Pirates, than ko bafana bafana. Beware Pirates fans, do not fall into their temptation. Dont fall into they trap. What they want to see, is to see Teko died. in my home village some were even fasting and pray for 10 days so that Teko must not perfom in World Cup. Some they even consult sangoma's just because they want see Teko to demise. Get me right im not accusing people for being witchcrafts. Teko remain Pirates "ACE".

Looking at the Scottish League over the past 3 years one will have to agree that it is improving so much with Rangers and Celtics giving other Champions League and Europa League teams a run for their money. So I`ll be happy if these boys are to play in there compared to big leagues wher they will not have a run at all.

The players are desperate to move to Europe bcoz they know that is where you develop not by staying in PSL.
It is very sad to read friends like Tivani who are negative. It is fine some players do get lost overseasd, but not everyone like you stated. Tell me how can Parker be lost when he goes to the holland champions in Holland, and in a very short time he manages to play some games. Where is that lost? That is slow progress at a very steep level of tactical plat!1

How many South African Players have had that opportunity... JUST A HANDFULL....I BELIEVE THAT EVERY THING IN LIFE HAPPENS FOR A REASON... AND MAYBE IT WAS BETTER FOR BEVAN FRANSMAN THAT HE WAS NOT PART OF THE HISTORIC BAFANA WORLD CUP SQUAD THAT SAW THE HOST NATION NOT QUALIFYING FOR THE KNOCKOUT ROUNDS FOR THE 1ST TIME IN 80 YEARS......
