Mandaza slams 'lying' report

Posted: 2010-07-24 10:53

Zimbabwe’s hotshot striker Terrence Mandaza has poured cold water over a report that he has signed a two-year contract with Platinum Stars.

The future of the 25-year-old has been a subject of intense speculation since netting 42 goals in 33 matches in the Botswana League to break the scoring records in the Southern Africa country.

Mandaza told KICK OFF magazine recently that his move to Orlando Pirates had appeared to have fallen through after Bucs officials didn’t call him back after he played for the team during an Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup tournament.

Since then the Township Rollers striker has been linked with some PSL clubs, including Maritzburg United, AmaZulu and Platinum Stars. Now he is training with ‘Dinaledi’ and has been in contact with KickOff.com. “I speak to you guys all the time and like I said, as soon as I sign I will be letting you know,” he says.

“I’m aware of reports that I have signed for Platinum Stars, but as you know I am just training at the moment and of course with the hope that I will sign for the team. At the moment I have been told that there is no coach, which means I must wait for the new coach to arrive before he can assess me and then sign me if I’m in his plans,” Mandaza says.

“Don’t take those who are lying about me signing seriously. There is no coach at the moment and as soon as I sign you guys are in contact with me, I have your number and I will be telling you all the details, but so far there has been nothing and any report claiming that is lying.”

Finally Mandaza signs for Stars

Former Township Rollers striker, Terrence Mandaza has finally signed a two year deal with Platinum Stars. Mandaza put pen to paper on Monday at Bafokeng Sports Campus. The team is currently preparing for the league and under intensive training.

The player has signed a deal for an undisclosed amount with an option to renew. He has also been offered a lucrative sum as signing on fee over the next two years. If the player is sold to any team Rollers will be entitled to a 20% share from whatever monies made from the deal.

Platinum Stars family from the grounds man, technical staff, management and the few close fans at the palace were all very happy that finally the man who has been their darling since arriving there has signed.

Assistant coach, David Vilakazi told the Rollers website that Mandaza is just what the club actually needed.

“This is a very good player who can do the job for us. We are happy with everything, he is such a fantastic player and I am very confident that he will score goals. We can’t say much for now except to say we expect this guy to continue his scoring antics.’’ Vilakazi said in Rustenburg on Monday after the player put pen to paper.

Mandaza was also happy that he has finally signed with Stars and thanked the Rollers management for the support they have shown in handling his deal.

“I am very happy here it is a professional setup and all this has happened because of Rollers” understanding and my loyalty to them. I can however rightly point out that I already miss the Rollers players, they were like a family to me and I want to go back to Botswana and bid them farewell.’’ Mandaza said Stars Manager, Boy Diale was also happy that they have finally signed the man they have long traced. Stars have been in Botswana a couple of times to watch the player and were happy with the report they got.
