Confusion reigns over Lagerback

Posted: 2010-07-23 19:21

NFF President Aminu Maigari has denied quotes attributed to him that Lars Lagerback has rejected an extension to his Nigeria contract.

Maigari was quoted extensively by local media as saying that the Swede had turned down the offer of a new deal and former striker Samson Siasia had been offered the job.

But the NFF boss said that was not the situation: "At the moment, the situation is that Lagerback has asked for a few more days to conclude discussions with his lawyers and his family. Right now, he has not said yes or no. But he will get back to us in a few days."

Siasia, who has reportedly been named as the Swede's successor, confirmed meeting with NFF bosses, but said he was only made a conditional offer.

"I spoke to the NFF people and they told me that if Lagerback did not come back, they could give me the job. Right now, I cannot say much because nothing is finalised, yet."

I wonder how many years it will take Lagerback to make up his mind about Nigeria. Lagerback is just been careful. I believe he is buying time so as to avoid legal issues with his contract. The man will definitely not return, I promise.

In as much as the news is all over Swedish and world newspapers, one expects KON to get such news straight from the sources. If those of us that reside outside Nigeria cannot trust KON to give us news directly from Nigeria, who then should we trust?

I have read the same news on at least two different Swedish websites. If I continue searching, more will be discovered.

How much of human life is lost in waiting?Aminu or whatever you called your self,Do you think that lagerfront will do magic to give you what he doesnt have? When you leave satan, you should also avoid making use of anything from him.Every one rejected lulu, then while are we still making use of his tools which is lagerback?lagerfront is not going to come back because his best striker which is Yakubu is no more in super Eagles and waiting for him prepares you for noting and he cant do without Yakubu.

Forum mates this is always NFF way of knowing what the public will say or think before taking action. Why can’t they be stable? Why are they there? Every body is trying to be carful and at last the still do same mistake. If they think there is time, there is no time ohhhhh. Take a decision now and give the-who so ever to be coach the free hand to players. Other coaches should be employed in bringing up young and other local players. That is my own….

Former U-23 national team coach Samson Siasia is known for his candid comments on football issues. He is one of the few coaches on the local scene who has been able to look straight into the eyes of NFA officials and tell them the truth.

Eagles celebrating
His views often times have seen him on the black books of those who ran the NFA in the past but that has not stopped the ex-international from saying it the way it is.

Siasia, presently on the pay roll of Heartland FC of Owerri as Technical Adviser, described most of the Super Eagles players who represented Nigeria at the World Cup hosted by South Africa as cowards.

According to him, it was obvious there were problems in the team but none came out publicly to say it because they were afraid of being ejected from the team.

“They knew there were problems in the team and they refused to speak out. They could have spoken with members of the NFA or the Presidential Task Force members.

These people would have been able to solve the problem but they simply refused to talk. When they finally decided to open up, it was too late for anyone to do anything about the situation.

That is certainly not the right approach. That is why they do not want some of us in the system, because we will not keep quiet while things go wrong. As a result of that attitude, Nigeria is smarting from what can be said to be her worst outing at the World Cup, while Ghana is enjoying her best outing at the World Cup and taking all the accolades”, Siasia said.

As regards the quality of people who should be in the new NFA, the former Flash Flamengoes of Benin striker said he believes we need people who can take football to the next level.

“First, we need some form of a forum where we can put heads together and discuss and appoint people with the interest of the game at heart. I am confident that we have people who can bring Nigerian football out of the woods.

The ex-internationals can also be very useful in the new NFA. Look at what France is doing. It is not possible for everybody to be a national team coach, so we need to use ex-internationals to scout for Nigerians playing in Europe and other parts of the world.

“Every day, some of us get calls from the United States and other countries where our players ply their trade. They do not know how to get in touch with the federation. The ex-internationals can come in handy here.

There are Nigerians in Europe who want to play for the country but do not know who to contact. The ex-players can come in and serve as a link between the players and the NFA”, he said.

when did an employee hold his employers to ransom. Lagerback should go F**k himself.

Could this news be true or is it a case of the media painting the pot black? I only hope that NSC can forget about zoning of the NFF election and allow credible candidate to be elected.

Nigeria: Lagerback - Why Amokachi Must Not Be Ignored

Patrick Omorodion

23 July 2010

Share:

During the week, the story that former Super Eagles forward and assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi asked that his boss, Lars Lagerback be sacked made headlines. Some fans reacted online, calling Amokachi names and asking that he shuts up.

In the story, Amokachi was not quoted directly but the website which did the story was quoting a faceless top official of the discredited Nigeria Football Association, NFA that Amokachi said Lagerback's contract should not be renewed because the Swede was "not good enough and only deceived Nigerians to get the job".

The story further stated that the former Everton of England player told the sports minister, Alhaji Ibrahim Bio that "Lagerback cannot help Nigerian football and that the former Sweden coach only deceived everyone into believing that he has the answers to the many problems of the game in the country."

This statement should not be taken with the pinch of salt because Amokachi is an insider and should know whether Lagerback deceived everybody or if it was the NFA that actually deceived Nigerians by declaring the Swede as the best among the coaches they interviewed.

Whether Amokachi's disclosure was borne out of patriotism or personal interest is not the issue here but the truth must be told and the probe of the NFA over financial impropriety as well as the fraud that was Lagerbck's employment should be thorough.

Contrary to Amokachi's claim that Lagerback deceived everybody, the NFA to be specific, was not completely correct. Lagerbck was allegedly aided to deceive Nigerians by the NFA top hierarchy to spite the Presidential Task Force, PTF.

According to a source close to both the NFA and the PTF, Lagerback was not in the picture to grab the Super Eagles job. Glenn Hoddle led in the interview and was to be named the new coach but the NFA played a fast one by arranging to have Lagerback also interviewed.

Our source revealed that the NFA did what could be described as an expo, leaking the questions asked other applicants to Lagerback and provided him with slides of Eagles past matches to study. With this the Swede was able to give accurate description of the players' strong points and weaknesses before the panellists.

It was the greatest deception of all times and Hoddle got wind of it hence his Nigerian contact cried foul and exposed the deal but nothing came out of it because the NFA big wigs had made up their mind to hire Lagerback who they could dictate to.

Any surprise why Victor Anichebe was dropped for injured and unfit players? Why John Mikel Obi was touted to be fit and ready for the North Korea friendly until he opted out by himself to avoid ridicule? Why Obi's replacement, Brown Ideye got to camp without the knowledge of Lagerback?

Even if Amokachi waited too long to cry out, he should not be ignored as being part of the problem, but his call should be looked into before the remnants of the Sani Lulu led NFA force Lagerback on the Super Eagles again.

But the Swedish press warned the NFA that they were going for a 'junk' coach and they never listened. Ostensibly because of what they stood to gain from employing someone they gave answers to questions he would be asked in an interview. Who lost? Nigeria, definitely not Lagerbck and not the greedy lot at the NFA.

And what is wrong if the man is consulting widely with his family and lawyer before accepting your offer. This is one area the oyibo man is far better than your so call local coaches.

If it is your local coaches they will jump at any offer as long as ego, kudi is mentioned without taking to consult widely.

The man is consulting, with his lawyers, wife, kids, inlaw and friend even kidnappers in Ngwaland, to avoid been kidnapped in Aba incase he will be watching enyimba play, so somebody should shot up and allow this man conclude his consultations, maybe after consultation he will hand over to SAI 1 finally.

SIASIA IT WILL BE YOUR TURN IF YOU DECIDED TO TAKEUP THE JOB,NIGERIANS WILLNEVER APPRECIATED YOR EFFORTS AS THE ARE UNGRATEFUL ELEMENT,WITH ALL OBASANJO PERFORMANCES NIGERIA ARE STILL CALLING FOR THE OLD MAN HEAD AND CALLING BACK IBB WHO SPOILED NIGERIA, NIGERIAN PEOPLE DOEST KNOW THEIR LEFT FROM RIGHT NON KNOW THE RIGHT FROM LEFT.

AMODU YOU ARE THE BEST WHICH NEVER ALLOWED TO WORK SOLEAVE THEM WITH THEIR PROBLEM AND BE LAUGHING,AND MAY GOD GUIDE YOU FOR YOUR HONESTY, NIGERIA NEED LIARS AND THIEFS, NOT HONEST AND OUTSPOKING PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND OBASANJO ,ABUBAKAR UMAR,LATE IDIAGBON AND OTHER GOOD NIGERIANS

Promo: 2010-07-24 09:43

@Tunde, u must be out of ur mind. Amodu may have qualified our team and so on, but are u blind to see that it's not pure football? Apart from his style, he is too proud and makes alot of rude comments to the media. How can u work with someone who doesn't care about what the country needs? How can we work with someone who is anti-local players? How can we work with someone who calls the local players training material? Dude, u need to take off sentiment out of this and face the fact, that Amodu wasn't the best for Nigeria, though he luckily won some matches. We need a young team. If Amodu listened and made some changes in his line up, believe me,Nigerians wouldn't be against him, but he let his Ego take over.

Obioma: 2010-07-24 11:19

@Tunde or wat u call urself You should Never I say Never compare Late IDIAGBON TO that Thief u call Obassanjo.

collins: 2010-07-24 12:06

okey, should be able to tell us more about lars consultations with his family.

Profy: 2010-07-24 14:28

I have listen to all commentators on this site and this is my verdict:

1. Amodu should not be mention here. Nobody cheated him. He did not meet the expectations of Nigeria and NFF HAS NO CHOICE THAN TO FIRE HIM. HE WAS PAid his due. De Bosque win Champion leagues for Real Madrid but the Mgt still fire him bcos they felt he doesnt have the personality to handle Real madrid. So stop playing sentiment here.
2. Nigerians never ask for foreign Coach. All they want is Siasia but NFF FELT HE IS TOO ARROGANT. In yoruba there is a saying that KAKA KI EKU MA JE SESE, AFI SA WADANU. in other words, they will rather give the job to sumone else than give it to the man of the people. Thats why Lagerback come to the picture bcos they know that they can still convince nigerians with a foreign coach if Nigerians cant get what they want which is SIASIA. Atleast Siasia beats amodu flat during the interview. that is where the injustice started.
3. If you dont believe me, do Opinion Poll and you will see that 90% of Nigerian will vote for SIASIA to be the Coach of the Super Eagles. He is a no nonsense coach who will not bow to anybody and he is very hardworking. Do you think Siasia would have taken Yakubu, Yobo, ****tu , Afolabi and Co to World Cup?
4. I support the Federal Govt in all ther action so far. Infact all the NFF member should go. We need fresh hands. People like Segun Odegbami, John Fasanu, Kodjo Williams, Adokie should come on Board.
5. The greatest problem of Nigerian Football is Amos Adamu. As long as he is still there, Nigerian Football will never no peace. The man breeds Coruption and mediocrity. Sani lulu is from my state but he is not competent to be in that board.

@Tunde
Befor i procede to tell you what i have for you, let me correct you by leting you know that Amodu does not have a good record than Largerback. Go and check history!

Now Mr.Tunde, you gave an impression that Obasanjo is the best president in Nigeria. Well I dont know if you are saying this out of your yoruba sentiment. but what i want to let you know is that tribalism will bring distruction and backwardness in you if you keep taking it as a prirority in this country.

I am not from the north, I am Igbo but i just want to let you know that Yar Adua is the best. i dont want to turn this sports site a political one by listing all the evils Obasanjo has done to us. But one thing i will like to tell you about him is that if not for Yar Adua who pay good attention to Education, so many graduate who graduated two years ago will still be struguling to go for there NYSC just because of the stupid NYSC quota system regardless of the fact that they dont owe any thing in school.

When Obasanjo was there, did he pay attention to Education. In fact this one example is a reflection of the level of corruption about OBJ
Who stoled our money and no one want to question him

Richie: 2010-07-24 15:41

Breaking News: Samson Siasia is now the coach of the Super Eagles and he has promised to make the team formidable. Let us therefore give him our support and prayers in his determination to rebuild and restructure the team.

duke: 2010-07-24 16:02

Coach Obuh is the rightONE for the super eagles. His under 17 team bests Siasia's selection at Olympics/under 20,in strategic play, multiple scorers, game plan. Moreover he has long DOMESTIC league experience and is more matured for local selection. Siasia will fail with the senior team because of assumption, and generally HE IS NOT A STRATEGIC THINKING COACH

duke: 2010-07-24 16:12

On the Nigerian scene, Coach Obuh should be best for Super Eagles

Richie: 2010-07-24 16:46

Duke:
I don’t think it is right to wish failure to the new coach of the Super Eagles, Samson Siasia, who is yet to assume duty. As a patriot, I expect you to wish him success in his new appointment.

NTA should please borrow a leaf from AIT. whats the need having 36 outreach station without captivating programmes to show for it.since the viewing right to air National team matches was issued to AIT, NTA has refused to hookup and air National team matches except for tournaments. it high time public outcry is raised against this. their directors and sporting crews are all bunch of disappointment.

woeful first half, tremendous come back in the second half, Falconets send packing defending champion.
While savouring the joy of the moment, the technical crew with the players must watch today's match in a relaxed atmosphere and correct all lapses. You cannot continue giving out corner-kicks away in women's soccer, you give advantage to the opposition.
Surprised at the turn around of Alaba Johnson, she was key to the victory. The referee amazed me also, I thought that Nigeria will lose as a result of her inconsistency. We can now look forward to Colombia's game, no better way to set a record, jinx broken.

John (Geneva): 2010-07-25 14:25

Maigari, if this is a joke please, stop it. If Siasia has been named to succeed Largerback, let it be. There's nothing to shame about that. Or, your statement could have been a slip of tongue? Do not listen to bad advice. I believe some of Lulu's boys are still around there with you, so becareful. "A word is enough for the wise", they say.

ken gadaffi: 2010-07-26 04:55

I am amazed that the words of our revolutionary leaders years by are beginning to haunt us in this modern day. Come October 1st Nigeria will be 50 years and yet we have nothing to show for it.

Precisely on january 15th 1966, Late Kaduna Nzeogwu in his speech had this to say

"Our enemies are the political profiteers, the swindlers, the men in
high and low places that seek bribes and demand 10 percent; those that seek to keep the country divided permanently so that they can remain in office as ministers or VIPs at least, the tribalist, the
nepotists, those that make the country look big for nothing before international circles, those that have corrupted our society and put the Nigerian political calendar back by their words and deeds"

Today, 44 years on, this words still look fresh in the ears considering that Nigeria is facing worst situation than what Nzeoguw and his freedom fighters saw then.

Only God knows how long we can wait to be emancipated from the stragehold of the powers that be in Nigeria.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH
