Neil Tovey will become the next Platinum Stars head coach, a source at the club has revealed to KickOff.com today.
Tovey was sacked by Amazulu recently despite reaching two cup semifinals and the Nedbank Cup Final, but the sources at Stars is confident Mkhukhu’s job-hunting days could be the thing of the past as early as next week.
“The deal has been finalised as far as I know and he could be announced early next week as the new coach of the team,” says the source.
Tovey himself was cagey about developments, telling KickOff.com’s Ernest Fakude: “I don’t want to go into detail at the moment but there have been some talks.”
A few top coaches’ names such as Gordon Igesund and Gavin Hunt have been mentioned in the same sentence as the vacant Platinum Stars head coach post. However, the source is adamant Stars have their man already and it is the former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana skipper.
Dinaledi’s general manager Jason Raine says they have been talking to a number of coaches and when KickOff.com put it to him that they had also spoken to Tovey, Raine refused to mention any names.
“Nothing has been finalised with any coach and we are not going to divulge the names of those who we have been talking to. We will make an announcement once everything is finalised,” says Raine.
However, the source insists that Tovey will be the new coach of the North West-based outfit.
