Following the hugely successful implementation of the referee’s communications kit, refereeing in the Premier Soccer League received another boost this week.
The League has trialed a new online capturing system that will further enhance the communications between the referee’s and the League. Match officials were officially introduced to the system during a seminar held in Potchefstroom this week.
It enables them to capture all the details of the match straight after the game and this goes directly into the database management system. This means that all information pertaining to yellow cards, suspensions, substitutions, goals scored etc are available immediately, instead of the league waiting for Monday to start capturing them manually.
“We are constantly striving to improve our service delivery to clubs, media and other stakeholders,” said PSL CEO Kjetil Siem. “It’s still a pilot project for now and it will be rolled out during the upcoming season. We will still continue to do both manual and online capturing until such time we ready to go fully online.”
“We live in an environment where technology can assist us in every facet of football and this is just another way of using technology to our benefit.
“This system also cuts the middleman out so that the required information is captured from the source allowing for as little errors as possible. The referees will have to sign off each and every online match report using their unique online signature,” Siem added.
The challenge facing the League is that not every match official is computer literate, thus all officials will go through comprehensive training on this system to get them up to speed by the start of the season. The exercise is part of the League’s bigger vision to have a fully integrated CRM system in place in the near future.
