Moroka Swallows not affected by Dieter Bock's death

Birds' sale won't cause hitches

Moroka Swallows fans can rest assured that the uncertainty regarding the future ownership of the club will not affect proceedings at the Dube Birds’ Nest going into the new season.

Premier League Chief Operations Officer Professor Ronnie Schloss tells KickOff.com that the death of majority shareholder German industrialist Dieter Bock earlier this year does not affect them in any way because Swallows is registered as a company on their books, and a change in the shareholding is not governed by any rules and can be effected at any time.

The executors of Bock’s estate have still to decide offers for the majority shareholding.

The only information that has emerged in this regard is that there have been two offers. The club’s minority shareholders have put in a bid of R55-million, while another BEE consortium have offered R65-million. There has been no confirmation of an offer by Namibian businessman Johnny Doeseb.

Meanwhile, Birds assistant coach Zeca Marques has disclosed that they have axed 14 players and signed three newcomers in the off-season.

“We were too top heavy last season and we have now skimmed the fat and we are going to have a leaner and meaner look about us when we start the new season,” he says in a report put out by Sapa.

“At present we have a squad of 23 which is much more manageable than the 36 players we had last season.”

Among the players released are veteran striker David Radebe, the Brazilian quartet of Davi Rancan, Vinicius da Silva, Elton Morelato and Igor Alves, Gordon Gilbert, Fabian McCarthy, Brent Geyer, and Edward Malinga.

why Igor Alves? He still needed to be given a chance to see if he can overcome his injuries.. What value does Ndlela add to the team?

I hope whoever buys the team takes it to the next highest level.. The current management did their best considering that they were clueless about football but managed to take the team away from relegation candidates to league and top 8 pretenders..
