Norman Smith slams Maritzburg United

Smith claims club behind eviction attempt

Posted: 2010-07-21 14:12

Transfer-listed Maritzburg United striker Norman Smith has vowed not to accept another loan move to Jomo Cosmos and play in First Division.

Smith tells KickOff.com that he thwarted an attempt by police to evict him from his flat in Pietermaritzburg last night and claims the club is behind the move to frustrate him.

According to the former Golden Arrows striker, who still has a one-year contract and spent last season on loan at Ezenkosi, the Pietermaritzburg-based club is forcing him to join Cosmos against his will.

“The police were here and wanted to chase me out of my flat. This flat is in my name, but the club decided to change the ownership and registered the flat under their name without my consent,” he alleges.

“I fought the eviction and told the police that I will only move after I get 30 days’ notice to vacate the flat. This is a ploy to frustrate my football career and force me join Jomo Cosmos. I can’t be forced to go and play in Mvela.

“I have told the club that I need my clearance if they no longer need my services. I am ready to fight on this battle and protect my rights both as human being and soccer player.”

The People’s Choice CEO Afzal Khan has distanced himself and the club from allegations that they sent police to evict Smith from the flat.

“Norman is on our transfer list. Yes, it is true that Cosmos want to sign him, but it is up to him decided where he wants to play.

“On the issue of being chased away from his flat by the club, Norman knows very well the procedure regarding accommodation at the club and we are not involved in any matter related to him being evicted from his flat,” Khan added.

Sweyts:i agree with u 100 percent. And supporters are expected to fill stadiums and watch some of these jokes called psl teams. Teams like maritzburg, free state stars to mention bt a few must forget abt us filling in stadiums as long as they dnt show professionalism and market themselves properly
